Whatever happened to the "old days"

It was not that long ago , that when people left a server they would say "see you later", or "cheers lads great round, but gotta go" or.....something.

Recently though it seems people just clear off without saying a word, and you end up with 2 people or so on a server after having a really good round with 30+ players, and you end up not knowing whats going on in between rounds?

Also on the same subject it seems as though the VOIP and real time communications are being lost - text is what people are using ?

Why is that - do people not want to talk anymore?

It kinda surprised me tonight

.

Text is being used by people, that are either too lazy to have someone volunteer to be the commander and relay info between squad leaders or they just have the need to tell something senseless to the other 63 people in the server, not just the 5 squad mates

Thats how I see it ^^

About saying goodbye...lol, I dont even say hi :p

I say goodbye from time to time. If i had a good round then i would. The main thing in my mind as to why no one uses VOIP is b/c either they dont have a MIC or dont know how to use it. I know when i first got BF2 i didnt know how to use it and since no one else used it i just gave up only when i started to play PR early this year did i went to find out how to use my MIC and now i use it all the time. :-)

EDIT: on the subject of not having a MIC you can always go bye one at any game store for like 20 or 30 bucks(i forget). I am talking about the PS2 MIC of course. Thats the one i use and it is USB so there is no problem in getting it to work.

I say goodbye if I've been playing for a while, with a squad. If anything, it lets them know that I won't be performing my role, and they need to get someone else to do it.

As to typing, it's usually the better thing to do if you don't have a commander, or if you have a stupid commander. Hell, even as commander, I often type when I need to reach a specific player/asset: I had situations where I'd need the attack chopper to provide air support somewhere, so I'd talk to the SL of the squad with the chopper, which would have no results whatsoever. In such situations, typing is the best way to reach the chopper, and hopefully get him to do something, and the yellow commander text helps, too.

I would say it depends on the game. If I leave midgame, I usually say bye if anyones actually communicating or whatever. However, most of the time I leave at the end of the round(I presume the same with lots of people) and usually don't feel like waitin for the load to simply say bye.

Plus at the same time, people who often use VOIP and the sort are probably playin in the open beta right now.

GG is really hard to type on "all chat".

This shows you how clueless DICE is about online games. You can't type stuff in chat in any of the BF games (well, maybe you can in 2142, but I never played that) after the round ends - something you can do in almost every other online FPS out there.

Yeah, in other games, we usually typed "GGA" "GG" "that was great" etc, when round ended... :(

You think that is clueless? How about the fact team chat shows up IN THE SAME COLOUR AS SPOTTING SPAM. Now THAT, my friend, is clueless! :o

It does not have to be like that. Keep setting a good example and others will follow.

Yeah I was going to say the same thing. Just this simple thing is really bad for communities.

Yup, a chat box while loading up a new map would have been nice. Is it possible to implement this for PR? I'm guessing that it will be hardcoded.

What I really hate, when I type something important into the chat and some d!ckhead decides to press Page Down/Up 4 times

Isn't VOIP still active when the round ends? I'm sure it is (unless of course it's a bug!).
