love this mod after one day, but...

i know i am very new to this mod but i have to ask this question. why has the sniper class been limited to about 1 or 2 snipers per team? is the kit really over-used without being limited?

i absolutely love this mod, for i'm sure the same reasons all of you appreciate it. but i have to say that not having a sniper class or at least a larger limit is a real bummer. for me anyways

the whole point is reality. if the sniper kit wasnt limited wed have john **** and harry all running around with the favy weapons and not playing as a team. The mod team is trying to get away from vanilla, and this is another step towards 'reality' (hint hint reality mod hint hint) as there would be only 2 snipers or two sniper teams per company anyways, and the mod and kit limiting is trying to simulate this.

Hi Ian, welcome. When you think about the two aspects of gameplay Project Reality revolves around it becomes a no brainer as to why sniper kits are limited.

1. Realism Aspect. In the engagements portrayed in PR (and in any modern combat) snipers have limited roles. They work alone or in teams of two and engage from long distances prioritizing targets etc. They themselves are used in small numbers during combat situations. In PR all factions are given realistic weaponary loadouts according to the size of the team. For that matter, limiting sniper kits (and any kits for that matter) is required to achieve this.

2. Teamwork Aspect. Teamwork and Reality go hand in hand. In reality, soldiers work as a team to achieve their objectives. The same rule applies here, there is no teamwork involved when half of your team is running around with sniper rifles (which is what would happen if we didn't limit them). Who captures flags and acheives main objectives? The Squad Leader with his Grunts in the front line, that's who.

... but the good news is that additional sniper kits are available on certain maps. They are spread around the maps as pickups, so now you just have to find it/them.

the main reason why sniper kits have been limited is due to our 0.3 release days. im sure many of the older guys can remember when before we had kit limiting how you could get entire teams of snipers. Now it's less like a snipe fest which is good!

i agree sniper class does rule, and it easly makes me become in the top 3 at the end of the round, but yes it has to be 1-2 per team, as its very very powerfull.

but i love the game and sniper class is my fav too, so im another sniper whore. but i do play the other classes well, some are really easy to keep steady and get headshots ;)

There is also a marksman kit available which while not quite as powerful as a sniper kit can offer similar play attributes.

We design the kit availability systems to reflect both reality and realistic game dynamics.

it still amazes the hell out of me that people see the name of the mod, project REALITY, and are still wondering why the sniper kit is limited, and the heavy at guy doesnt have 7 rockets, and theres no laser beam guns. GRRRRRRRR :x :x :x

You've just compaired a sniper rifle to a marksman weapon!
Now the sn1p3r Whores are gonna get the impression you can lone wolf with it like a sniper rifle, When its actualy a squad based support weapon, in the same league as an LMG.

Yep. It was either sniper whoring or insta-proning support whoring. Pretty much nothing else.

Well, there was the odd AT whore or limitless UGL whore.

It was a whore's game though.

wow, what a warm welcome. first off, i do enjoy sniping but only when it benifits the team. i guess i needed to ask the question b/c i do understand that in reality there would only be one sniper per 20 soldiers, if that. i am just wondering if it was due to people not playing as a team and joining servers just to find 30 to 40 snipers or a general dislike of the class. i guess i'll just have to get used to the system of kit requests instead of trusting that people would actually try to think to work as a team.

Well I understand why the kits are limited but I can also see your point the problem I think is that kit limiting hasn't completely solved the problem of ppl whoring sniper rifles. You see it has stopped loads of ppl whoring up the class but it hasn't stopped one person from hogging the class and thats the problem with kit limiting for me.

It's the same story everytime I join a round of PR I see the same guy using the resricted kits for the entire round and no one else can get in there. I'm a teamplayer but I also like variety in my matches it's what the battlefield games are all about, the sheer amount of stuff you can try or do thats why I play them. I've found there have been many times where my squad could have really used a sniper or support kit to dislodge some a well dug in squad or sniper and can never get it because KILLA69 is on the other side of the map with the marksman/sniper kit whoring it up and has been for the last hour ,and thats the big problem just now. I would really like to see some kind of timelimit to how long ppl can use the kits so other squads get a chance to use the tools they need.
