Accurate Tracers.

Hey guys,

Been playing PR for a while now, loving the new betas. Got a question.

Is there any way of putting more accurate tracers into the game? They add so much more immersion...

I'm sure you've seen VBS2, well they've somehow managerd to replicate very, very realistic tracer effects. Watch the sequence that starts at 0.54 seconds.

Actually little physics.

tracers actually shoot a little higher than normal rounds. So if you aim at some bodys head for example and fire a tracer the round will go just above.

More tracers in game might be nice, but I wonder if the engine can handle that much tracers at one time. How I wish features of VBS2 would work on the BF2 engine. Is it possible to close all the hatches on the tanks in PR and open them to use the machine gun? For example, watch at 7:11 where the hatch opens for the soldier to use the machine gun. Now, is it possible to switch to the third position of a tank (machine gunner) and stay crouched inside the hatch and use the W+S keys to close/open the hatch to use the machine gun?

If you've ever seen tracers fired for real, they seem to 'bounce' off the ground - they also seem a lot slower and thicker than you'd expect.

I've always felt that the 'red thin laser beam' tracers of most modern FPS shooters don't look right.

If you've played Red Orchestra, the tracers they've modelled are actually very, very accurate - even down to ground reflections.

about the tracers. yes you can have more of them. in pr they fire every three. you can make every round a tracer. i did that for my mod. not the most realistic but man is it cool.

about the physics of the tracers.it might be possible(ever seen shot gun shells bounce of things? ever seen tank rounds bounce of tanks? get that effect for the bullet material projectile. give that to every single material it could hit. and walla bouncing bullets.

to give tracers the glow effect at night. it might be a matter of adding that glow to the tracers.=)

How have you done that, spartan? Is it possible to add tracers to every round on heavy MG's only? Ty.

easy. i can do it in 5 seconds literally. i just change tracer interval from 3 to 1 / do the same for all mg.s DONE. =) i have that in my mod. its a lightshow =)

yea.. but which file do you have to modify to do this?

Srsly, they are just fine. I have lost 20% of my hearing shooting hundreds of rounds on the range. They are just fine.

I think the tracer models in PR are damn good considering its the BF2 engine. Especially when watching a tank engage a target at far distances with its machine guns, love watching outgoing tracers.

tracers bounced off tanks in BF42 :/ haven't seen them bounce in BF2 yet...

Well, I was reading up on tracers a while ago, trying to get some info to discuss with some people, and I find a nice little tid bit.

Sometimes Squad Leaders would load their magazines with only Tracers so they could mark targets for their squad. This could easily be added to the Officer rifle. I think it'd work great.

That would make the SL more visible and easier to take out.
Really not needed anyway with the bf2 "enemy spotted"

I dont know if you remember guys, but we had tracers in 0.4 and everyone spammed the whole forum on how star wars it looked.

Tracers and the machine gun ammo count is still relevant.

The save for later idea and the other ideas have been fixed since or are hard coded.

Have you ever seen tracers coming straight at you with binocs in BF2?
I have, and really cool, but you have to duck really fast.

A Desert Storm veteran remarked that all the tracers in real life looked like Star Wars ;)

Yeh but i say we put the tracers to 1:5 ratio in machine guns and the last 5 in the assault rife's should be tracers for ammo count :-)

More than that will look dumb and not be practical.
