Squad Formation Marker

Anyone here remember Operation Flashpoint?

In that game the Squad leader could order different formations. Importantly though there was a marker, a little yellow box that showed you where you were supposed to be in that formation.
I wonder is it possible to implement formation orders in this game and have a marker which showed players on there screen only where they were expected to be.

Becuase in real life we all have little indicators to show us this, right?

I have a feeling that to pull that type of thing off would be a huge undertaking or impossible in BF2. First you have to display the formations on screen for each squad member not the entire team. Have a way for the SL to change them and then have a tracking system to show you what direction you need to move in to be "in" position.

It would be cool to have some formations that are widely known and could be called out over voip. Perhaps 3 or 4 could be listed in the wiki to give people some basic knowledge?

I know the marker isn’t realistic but. most people playing the game don't know where they should be in a given formation. Where a real soldier would know where he is supposed to be thanks to his training.
How it would work would be every member of the squad depending on what position they joined the squad in would have a small marker showing them where they should be stood. They don't need to see markers for the rest of the squad, since they should be following orders them selves and therefore be in the correct position. This should only show up if the squad leader gives a formation order which should be issued from the commo rose.
It never got in the way when playing flashpoint and just helped you get in the correct formation with your squad since spatial awareness is difficult to portray in a game.

What makes you think that people will follow them anyway?

I just tell them to form a line and spread out, and they do.

Get yourself a mic.

I understand how it could work, my point was more that to get it to a polished level would be almost impossible in BF2. Flashpoint had this built right into the engine, if PR could have access to the source code then this could happen.

A lot of hardcore PRs play 24/7 karkand Inf only. I've seen DEVs do it aswell!
