Passworded "PRO" Servers

Hello Soldiers,

please comment this idea:

How about setting up a "network" of passworded servers. The password could be provided either in the Forums if you post in a specific Thread, or even maybe after a specific "basic training programm" but second idea might be hard to realize.

the idea behind this is getting up servers with people who really know how to play this mod.

i know this is a critical topic since it kinda means closing out people who just get started.
the other point is, if someone is really into PR, they will have a look in the forums anyway. and if they read a post like "how to get started" and get a hint onto the Manual before they get the password, we could get a good blast on experience to lots of players.

note: i am not "anti-noob" and i have nothin against people who are new to PR and i dont wanna "block" them away. this is just an idea id like to discuss.

so please take a second and tell us what you think.

regards,
alroar

TG does this on certain nights...its pretty nice for sure.

I like TG's concept of having special nights for this. But in general I think there should be as many openly accessible servers as possible. The best way to learn how to play PR is to play it with veterans and learn from them.

thanks for feedback!
just keep spawncarwasting on several maps in mind.. it can happen, yea, but when the whole team keeps shouting at someone "leave the care where it is! its no taxi!" and there is no admin far in sight..... well, u probs know what fun that is walkin over the whole damn map by foot.

well, i wouldnt like to apply that idea to every server, but maybe on a few..

the problem about gaming nights is, that this is only for a night every now and then.. i mean, if i had a server, i would try something like this out... :P

but your point about "learning from pro's" is very important. i mean, i read the manual, got into the game, and joined a teamwork squad, and that is whats makin most fun out of it. that makes you start very easy.
but i catch myself so often yelling at somebody to RTFM and im getting tired of it. im willing to teach everybody who wants to learn it, but there are some many ppl just joining and doin nothin, listning to nobody, etc

I really do understand your reasons. I know these situations and sometimes wish these guys to hell when they throw back the team with such actions. Wonder if some kits or vehicles should be restricted to a minimum ABR rank. Nothing really high. Just so that not too many new guys try to use the chopper in their first round of PR. But that's another line of thought.

I hope I can help this situation a bit with 0.6 by writing a new player guide for people coming from vanilla. I try to make it an easy read that conveys the most important information as early as possible and allows the interested reader to work his way up to more advanced concepts after the essentials.

When I'm mostly done with it I will first let the dev team look and comment at it and then make it available (Hopefully near the time 0.6 is released)

we had a server like this for the begging of v0.4, but most of the time ppl played on the public servers.

IMO the "pros" should be playing on the public servers, and teaching the new guys and being role models for them :)

Yeah the only problem is when ABR has problems or servers that don't have ABR.

I'd recommend you join a tournament if you want the 'true' PR experience.

Thats not a problem - at least I can get one award multiple times that way :D
I just lol at Meritorius Ribbon, whenever I manage to live longer than 5 mins, which happens a lot

Passwording a server doesn't work. Vetting individual players is the only way to make it work and the is impossible really. I can say this in some comfort having accessed passworded servers and hearing such classics as "I've never played this map before" and noticing an utter lack of use of limited kits for specific roles even ten minutes down the line when they are STILL needed as everyones gettting raped over and over :)

Passwords get leaked within minutes, so theres no point.

alright thanks to all that feedback...

i read one idea with ABR rank.. well, is this even somehow realistic to manage?
and i do not mean to do it realistic, but to code it. i dont have that much experience with ABR but it seems to be kinda buggy?

would this even work to give kits or "abilities" to players even during the round with ranks?

whats on the start of a map when u need to move a spawncar?

and btw: i am in a tournament :P

Organized play

PR is a mod for the BF2 elite. That is not meant in a negative way. Fact is, though, that much of the PR community is hardcore gamers who use VOIP and desire organized play and teamwork. Therefore, we should definitely encourage people to try real organized play whether that be with a clan, tournament or teamplay community like Tactical Gamer because as we all know it is the way to get the most out of Battlefield for the serious player. An entry in the Guide about organized play would be a good idea. I shall gladly make that entry if nobody beats me to it.

if you need support, id like to help you there.

but i already got that idea that someone is working on that...

i think people should be made clear, or really be annoyed by hints to read the manual / guide before or while downloading PR. since this is 1.few gigs it takes a few moments to get it. use that time to read the man!

man PR!

though i know you get a link to the manual on the desktop when u install it, i doubt how many ppl actually read it..
yea, people who are interested do read it, but you know that there very lot of players who have no idea.

especially things like "what is a spawncar, and wy does everyone yell at me?" should be cleared out in a "how to get started guide"

I think the problem with an idea like this would be that potentially dedicated players would be put off.

If a server that they could get to straight away was full of people who shouldn't really be playing PR, lone wolfing and spending hours getting the sniper/marksman/support/pilot kit rather then seeing a proportion of people playing properly and another pissing about making the game £%^& then it's not very likely they'll keep their interest long.
