..................Many other more....

In recent changes page, many changes marked small are actually unwanted large changes.

I think we need a new section or a thread to report these bad guys. I use a lot of "Protection" in my wiki.

They register new users and make these changes. During the last three days, they have edited a lot of pages.

Fritz and I just cleaned out most of them. Thanks for the heads up.

Can't the wiki be made a little more restrictive on who is allowed to post things? Since not too many people work on it anyways a log-in system with manual activation would be very nice for the time being. Even if that is not quite in the spirit of a wiki.

Having to log in is hardly a steep requirement as long as it is possible to anybody. If you have something to say you think is important enough to be submitted into the official guide read by numerous people you certainly can take the time to log in. I say go for it.

You currently do have to log in. You've always had to register an account separate from your main forums one.

Would it be possible maybe to use the same account for both, but have a minimum post count of like 20 in the main forums in order to make wiki changes? I don't think any spambots really survive 20 posts anyway.

True, you do have to log in. I should know since I have already been editing stuff... Excuse me, I am tired. :s

Sorry if I got misunderstood. I wanted to suggest that you do need to have your account activated by an admin before you are allowed to do any changes. That way spam bots do not have a chance and regular users will not be limited too much since there is only a relatively small base of people working on the wiki.

Spambots are a *****, but are fairly easy to deal with by sysops once noticed (go to user's contribs and hit revert on every change). It's a problem with any popular wiki, just like it's a problem with any popular forum or blog. Having manual activation would work, but it would discourage people from registering to fix a mistake their saw, or add some minor information, because it would take so much effort and waiting.
