Believable environments...

This is a small thing, but it would be great if it was considered.
One thing that deters from the "experience" of the game is when you spawn at the main base, surrounded by a couple vehicles and nothing else.
It would be nice if it atleast looked like a mildly fortified outpost.. with some unplayable trucks and such that contain ammunition and medical supplies. Maybe even a create a few soldiers standing guard (they dont necessarily have to shoot... just be a static with an animation, much like a tree).
Stuff like that would really add to the feel of the game.
And regarding artillery, do those things even exist? They just sit there and automatically move upward and shoot. Maybe replace those with some artillery batteries that have soldiers as part of the animation

the artillery is meant to be M198's I think, although there should be crew... having dummy crew though could make them "unusable" even if you arent SF... ie you shoot the crew and render it crewless
static objects would be nice though, but not too many as to overdo it

I think we should have realistic battlegrounds you know something like maybe a field! or a mountain range. EA do not seem to realise that not all fights happen in areas with buildings.

The lightweight 155 (LW155) or XM777 is currently replacing all of the M198 towed howitzers. The LW155 is modeled in BF2.

Not in BF2. Only possible in OFP afaik. But try to hit a moving tank at 2000m

i was thinking that myself at first but then i thought: "na, EA wouldnt do
that much research...
evidetly i was wrong heh
as for open maps... yeh, would be nice, BUT it would need a limit on marksmen/snipers as it would get a tad unbalanced. here i think the squad auto weapons would become really usefull in forcing the opfor to keep their heads down
edit: if you want long range tank battles, try T72 Balkens on Fire - its based in 1995 in, oddly enough, the Balkens and you are in Russian, (as Yugoslavia) kit

hey peeps,
after a few weeks of reading these forums i think im just going to post somethig...
I would love to see some maps with a more battlefied-like environment, arty craters, destroyed buidings and the like, because everytime i play the warzone is situated in somekind of honeymoon tourist resort with nice green meadows, lush forests and nice historical interesting buildings. What ever happend to the grey fields of death without trees and where the craters are filled with toxic gas and men march with rotten feet?
regards,
Deth

Exactly the point I was trying to convey with my post.

We should just go watch some Band of Brothers and we will come back with loads of good (realistic) map ideas!

I would say that this is a great idea! It would be lovely to see much smaller command points, ones which look more temporary. However, they would still have to look fortified, maybe a few MG's with sandbags, not walls, or maybe barbed wire fencing. To be honest, I think the Battlefield 2 maps are far too crude and lack research of the real battlefield situation when it comes to the control points. I really like your point here man, I hope you get waht im saying
Thanks, Elliott.

One other thing that Desert Combat accomplished really well was setting up these ambient sounds around bases.
Remember the Eastings map in DC? That was the first map I played in DC and it stuck to be my favorite map in DC. I loved it. It was such a simple map but it just worked. The tank battles were amazingly intense.
If you took the CP in the center, it had craters from artillery barrages, barbed wire etc. You would then get in to the mobile artillery cannons and use them to eliminate the onslaught of armor coming from the enemy base. I usually set my cannot in a crater to decrease their visibility on me... there were times when 4 tanks and 3 bradleys came rushing in at the base and all we had were 2 artillery cannots and a single BMP. It got REALLY intense. The good tankers were very difficult to hit, which made it all the more fun.
In BF2, you have these 'city in a can' type scenarios where there is EVERYTHING on a single map. They freaking tried to hard. Just give us some open desert, a few outposts and plenty of armor and the BF2 engine will shine man! The tank battles would be amazing (not to mention you can fit in more tanks since the desert terrain wont hog any CPU power).

So far the best the best BF2 has done is those remains of the F-15 on Daqing and the Blackhawk on Zatar.

Remember those CounterStrike maps that were a big box, two walls in front of the spawns, and nothing but dash room? I just might make that for tanks.

Wasn't there an old Atari game like that, not as estheticaly pleasing but the basic idea was there. Sort of a maze where the tanks moved around, jostling for position and trying to get that last killer shot in before the enemy tagged you. Tank Pong I think it was.

You mean Battlefield? OH! That tank game. I remember that. With the invisible tanks on level who-knows-what? That was fun.
