I hate servers using 3rd part VOIP!!

There is nothing more frustrating than landing on a server only to find players using Ventrilo , TeamSpeak etc instead of the built in VOIP.

If you don’t have these programs running you either have to find a squad not using it, go and Rambo it because you can’t hear your SL commands or find another server.

The few times I have played and used it it’s been a mass of confusion because you can hear all the chatter from both sides and all squads. Great for social chit chat but not suitable for seriously directing a squad.

Maybe the built in VOIP in BF2 isn’t the best for sound quality BUT at least it does exactly what it’s supposed to do which is isolate you from the endless chatter so you can concentrate on your squad.

These things were handy to have prior to games coming with built in VOIP but IMO have long outlived their usefulness other than for online gatherings. They have no place replacing the games built in VOIP.

DISABLE THEM IN PRM!!

My Rant! :x :x

Usually TS/Vent will only be used by clans. Simply avoid joining clan squads.

Why cant we have both???

I use teamspeak with a mate, when its just him and me in a squad...voip when other people join our squad. We sometimes talk about $hit while playing, if we did that over voip we would cop a gobfull from other players. We also play a variety of online games, voip doesnt carry over to them....saves us time, we dont have to swap and change, we can talk outside the games.

Your rant was biased towards PR. Yes we all love it but its not the only online game people play. Start your own squad and call it "Voip Only", I have seen those quiet often in PR...I dont join them because of the fact I use TS at the same time....and because Iam retarded I often get them mixed up...heheheh

But I do see your point..... just dont let it frustrate you, its a game meant to be fun.
Cheers

Whenever I use TS and ingame voicecomms, in any game, I end up broadcasting half of what I want to say on the wrong voicecomm..

Also, I've never actually been to any public PR TS servers, but I doubt that they see a lot of use by random pubbers.

I use both (TS and Vent + VOIP) and have different buttons for using each (duh). So its not really a problem, just that some people are lazy or find it inconvient to use both. Can't blame them for that, either find another squad or get some reliable friends ;)

using a 3rd part VOIP ontop of ingame VOIP is fine IMO, epically if squad leaders want to talk to each other :)

@reaper, what is that damn firefly thing in your sig that quite afew ppl have in there sigs?

agreed that in game squad voip is soooo much better for team organisation...

all ts ive been on has been basically smack talk and useless offtopic banter ;)

ok to idle in but not too useful while in game

Plus TS always gives me huge network problems in BF2, not sure why. Anyway I've never liked 3rd part programs much.
personly what I do is this, I have 2 sound cards in my system, 1 is my SB, the other is my crappy mobo sound card. my SB is my main windows and game sound, but my mobo sound is used for my VOIP for TS or vent. Plugged into it I have a 1 bit headset and mic, infact its this one: http://geizhals.at/img/pix/233253.jpg

all my TS output sounds come out the ear piace, but thou I have the mic plugged into my SB so BF2 can run with it even if im not using TS. so sound input for the mic is on my SB, and sound output of TS/vent is on the mobo soundcard. so I can just turn my sound card vol up really high and can control the vol ingame on TS with a volume control on the headset :)

thou still my ingame VOIP comes out of my speakers, and on TS sometimes ppl can hear every gun shot if im using voice activated or keep my push to talk button down they dont get any feedback of themselfs thou which is the most annoying part :p

Firefly was a great show that got cancelled by Fox. A person on BF2s made this so I apparently took it and used it here. Seems that other people are fans of the show and used it as well.

I have very bad stuttering on VIOP and I wish I could play only on TS but as others have mentioned it is far too complex as far as switching teams and squads inside the TS server to match the game server.

hmmmm very interesting... i never thought about using my on-board sound like this... may use up some CPU time, which is a little prescious to me, i'll have to see.. nice idea.

For me...

VOIP = Squad Comms
TS = Intersquad Comms

I use both TS and in-game VOIP, never have any problems with it, really. If I'm in a squad with squadmembers not using TS, I use the in-game VOIP.
Most of the time, other clanmembers are on TS, so I have a chat with them at the same time.

Personly I use TS to my clan mates but relay all importent coms on VOIP-makes sense to me as a SL to let every one know whats happning?
Currently out servers VOIP is fubar as "some one" decided to put it on another PC then turn it off.
Genious!

Having never used TS or ventrilo I've always wondered and never known if organized cheating can be achieved (or shall we call it espionage) by players in oposing teams being connected through TS, ventrilo or other communications and passing on info of troop and hardware movements.

Am I just having a paranoid moment?

Better get it fixed asap :o . I find way more people using VOIP on .6 in comparison to previous versions (in which many people used VOIP already!).

And ye, "cheating" or "espionage" can be done of course. Really sad if someone does that though. Just as people telling where the weapons caches are when teamswitched (auto or not) from Insurgents to USMC on Basrah.
