I have a Map Idea...

So here it goes. I was thinking about creating my own al basrah map where it's Insurgents vs Iraqi Police, I was going to take the current basrah add a few cp's and such.

Now heres what i need help with. I know you guys are not adding anymore sides so can i create my own side? And can i create my own weapons for the side? And most of all can I do this or will you guys not allow a newb like me to mod your mod? Don't get me wrong your mod rocks! It's 10x better the Poe2(No matter what their fanboys say) It made me realize what teamwork was and it thought me the beauty of single shot. So can I do this? Please dev's i need an answer if you dont like my Idea then please close.

Creating a new faction i.e. the Iraqi Police would take a LOT of work from a team of people (best examples are the Canadian Forces Community Mod Project and the Polish Forces Community Mod Project).

If you are insisting on having an Iraqi Police Force then you would need to try and recruit a team and generate interest in the idea. However, my advise would be 1) make your map (they take a looooong time to make, especially if its your first one!) 2) If you are still insistent that you need you're new team to make it work then organise your own Community Mod Project (AFTER your map has been completed to the point where it is ready to be tested!)

I would STRONGLY advise getting the map near completion before you go about trying to get a new faction organised!

Well I was thinking about taking the current basrah editing out the airport and making the south vcp as an uncap "Police Station" I would want to include police cars, an ambulance(I know it's been suggested before) and instead of the police having spawn cars they'ed have the militia pick up trucks. Also the Models i'd like to keep the current insurgent skins and give em US camo. What do you think of it? And what does the community think of it?

I think it's an interesting idea. Don't turn the VCP into a police station, though -- put it somewhere in the city.

Those office buildings south of mosque sound suitable

How about where facility used to be? I mean it has a perfect layout for a police station. It has enough parking for 3 police cars(Civilian cars with sirens) And a nice spot for an ambulance(Which will be driven only by one kit)

For what? I still think facility is better.

Allright guys new Ideas tell me what you think.

1. I'll use the 32 player version of .5 basrah since it fits perfectly into my design.

2. I dont want this to be an insurgency map(Even though it would be more realistic)

3. Each side would start with their own special vehicles. (Aka Squad car, Ambulance, Militia pick up truck for police and Technical, Suicide car, Spawn car) Motorbikes and Civilian cars can be used by both.

I need suggestions for Cp's and Pick up kits.

I agree on your facility idea. I was going to suggest that very place.

Kit wise, for your police force, I'd say...(keep in mind I have NO idea what the new iraqi army would use, I'm basing this mostly on what I know my local SWAT team has from experience in an incident during my senior year, and extrapolated) I'm assuming you're authorized to use lethal force.

Officer (High ranking member of the police force):
*Some sort of rifle or carbine (G3 carbine version?)
*Pistol
*Gas mask
*Light Armor vest (?)

Patrolman:
*Shotgun
*Pistol
*Tear gas w/ launcher (maybe handgrenade verision, if they exist)
*Gas mask
*Light Armor vest (?)

Entry Specialist
*P90
*Pistol (Personally I'd go for the Five Seven if I'm toting a P90)
*Armored vest (A must. Stronger than the earlier two kits if it gets it)
*Flashbang (Maybe tear gas instead??)
*Grappling hook (?)

EO Disposal (Last second idea)
*Pistol
*Wrench
*Heavy body armor

Vehicles:
Squad cars (Maybe police vans)

Pickup-Kits
Marksman:
*Sniper rifle of some kind
*Pistol
*Binoculars

Now, I'm not familiar with any police force using anti-vehicle explosives (not saying they don't, though it's a pitty we can't use spike strips or something) but you can shoot through the windows of the unarmored cars, so regular weapons might be able to do it.

It's early in the morning and my kit ideas might not be the greatest. I am assuming you're changing the "Insurgent" classes into a "rioters" set of classes?

I love this idea, however i can't realistically see it getting done, i agree it should be a 32p version of basrah (urban environment)
but heres a suggestion, make the civilians on the police side?
so the police would have to protect the civilians.

You can't simply butcher Duckhunt's Al Basrah to suit your own ideas!!! If you want to concentrate on getting the new faction running first, great. The gamemode sounds like it would suit the current version of Basrah. If you have your own ideas about a new map similar to Basrah I suggest ya get started cos it'll take you a while! :)

@Grunt I like those kit ideas

@Dark Nah i was thinking along lines of civilians being loyal to the Insurgents since they view the police as collaboraters with the occupiers.

@Tartan I cant model for shit so i was thinking about taking the .5 spawn cars and turning them into squad cars.

@ Rank i dont wanna butcher i wanna modify, And the reason i dont want to use insurgency game mode is I want the Police to try and take back the city from the Insurgents or for the Insurgents to drive out the Police. Your right rank i'll first have to make the side before i even begin to modify the map.

EDIT: I was thinking of giving the Iraqi Police an FN FAL and a Glock 18 with full auto fire.

Yep, and if you do want to make changes to the map you'll need Duckhunt's approval to edit it, and his approval over the changes you make. By butcher I meant modify of course, but the reason for using the term relates to the fact that you would need his expressed permission to make those changes. TBH if you are looking at using any map already in use you should accept that you won't be able to make any changes to the statics etc, but focus on developing your gamemode, and have it working AROUND what's already there. There's nothing to stop you developing statics that might spawn in different locations i.e. like the weapon caches in the Insurgency gamemode...

@Rank I know have to get permission first. I was only making this thread to see if people would like my Idea. I only suggested Basrah because it is an awesome map.

That's cool! :D hehe, just had to make sure you knew all the rules and regs etc. Yeah it is an amazing map, and you've got a great idea for a gamemode! Hope you get some support! :)

I know man i'd never steal from you guys, You put alot of hardwork into this mod, I'm just trying to be a part of it by creating something which people would love. Oh well back to BF editor for me i'm gonna take jalala and use that as a base map since it would be easier.

one thing about this is that it's not a "we want a new generic superpower!"
with an attack helicopter an assault rifle, and a MBT. it's an unconventional force, really it doesn't matter too much weather it's the MEC v. Canadians, or Germans v. Chinese. it was the introduction of a new breed of faction to BF2, the insurgents played by their own rules. they had tactics that were more dynamic, and that is what i think PR needs more of.

Yeah, I'd like to see this police faction go in. I think my kit ideas where not far off. Maybe an "army" without AR's would be different.

I dont care what factions people would like. If i had a choice, id bug eggman to put Samoan warriors in the next map

I just want a map with some common sense in it. What is the point of blowing up a bridge that leads to a CP, if there are 15 bridges that lead to a CP?

Please make use of the kits, why do insurgents get ambush kits when there is no where on basra you can lay an ambush and stay hidden?
