Issues with penalty for losing a vehicle

You get a considerable score penalty for losing a vehicle. This is problematic because it incites players to bail out before said vehicle is destroyed. A clever enemy can then simply gun down the crewmen and omit destroying the vehicle, meaning that the vehicle will not respawn which can really hurt the team. So, where people should actually be rewarded for making sure the vehicle gets destroyed so it can respawn they are instead penalized. I therefore suggest the penalty for losing a vehicle is placed elsewhere. For example, there could be a serious penalty for getting killed as a crewman or driver on foot for one minute after leaving a vehicle.
Another problem is how you receive the same penalty for getting killed when using a tank's position three tank commander 0.5 cal, which is hardly fair. I suppose the same is true for passengers in a jeep and Blackhawk gunners. To resolve this issue, only those with a crewman or pilot kit should receive the penalty and in the case of light vehicles that do not require such kits, only the driver.

I have a low tech solution....do not get killed.
Understand that youe vehicle has value and treat it kindly.
Understand that your tank has optics and learn to stand off.
Most of all..... don't be a coward and fight your tank until the end !

I have to agree with AD&A on this. If we drop the penalty people will value the tank less which is worse then them bailing out to save score IMO. It isn't perfect but it's good enough for me.

What I hate is the negative points for destroying wrecks, which I thought was fixed but I'm not sure now as I thought I got a negative score last night.

This sucks hard. It's still in the game, got kicked the other night for negative points, wasn't even paying attention, just destroying leftover wrecks that were blocking.

You mean we lose points for being in a vehicle that gets blown up? When did that happen?

More like, a good crewman never goes down while in his vehicle.

How many times have I seen a stranded Tank in the middle of nowhere?
Too many times.

I guess I did not make that as clear as it could have been: Keep the penalty, but make the penalty for getting killed on foot after exiting a vehicle so large in comparison you encourage players to 'go down with the sinking ship'.

Since when do people play PR for points? I'd rather die with the vehicle.

I usually jump out of the vehicle to avoid being exploded not to lose points (I thought you still lost them if you got out anyway!). It's realistic for crew to bail out of a critically damaged vehicle anyway, not like they're going to want to die with it.

Agreed. Whoever leaves a tank in the middle of the battle, should face the consequences of his team having one asset less.
I remember last nights round on Daqiunq map, guy gets hit two times in a tank from me, then when he finally has the chance to hit me after turning his turret around like crazy, he rather jumps out and gets mowed down by the coax

If you bail out before the vehicle catches fire you are letting down your team.
Abandoning vehicles. Never abandon anything more powerful than a jeep - if even that! The only exception to this rule is the support vehicles which it can sometimes be wise to park in a safe location. The problem with abandoning vehicles is that your team is going to be missing them if you do. In Project Reality, abandoning vehicles is especially bad since it takes a very long time for them to self-destruct and respawn if the enemy is smart enough not to destroy them for you. It gets even worse if you are abandoning vehicles that require a crewman or pilot kit to use, particularly if you leave them more than 100m away from a friendly CP since you will then not be able to get the required kit directly from the vehicle! This is due to the limited kits request rules. Even APC's should never be abandoned: Although it can at first glance seem like a good idea to park it somewhere and simply use it as a spawn point you are always better off leaving one crewman in the APC, both so the APC is defended but also for its deadly fire support. Safekeeping your APC's is fine, but not to the point of refraining to make full use of it. There are more details on this in the APC Guide section of the Vehicle Guide.
Getting out of vehicles in a dangerous situation. Drivers will often hop out of the vehicle to repair it mid-combat or when it is about to be destroyed. Do not do this! First off, repairing as a crewman is extremely ineffective and takes a very long time. Engineers are the only way to get repairs done within a respectable timeframe. Secondly, you risk getting killed, effectively abandoning the vehicle. You must stay in the vehicle to ensure that it gets destroyed so that it will respawn. If you do not you are letting down your team. You must be like a captain, going down with his sinking ship! It is fine to get out, however, when the warning signal starts ringing. That means the vehicle is on fire and that destruction is imminent. At this point the enemy cannot prevent the vehicle from respawning. Just remember to slow down the vehicle before getting out or you will die all the same!

Hmmmmmm , In reality tank and vehicle crews will abandon their vehicle even when it's only damaged. The crews lives are more important than the vehicle. Of course in PR you respawn and destroying a tank will speed its recovery.
An army will attempt to destroy or recover a abandoned vehicle and both of these things are modeled in PR to some extent.
So when someone bails out of tank because of damage and runs off (grabs a new kit/tank/gets shot), someone else could grab the repair truck to fix it and then hop into the tank as it's new crew then destroy the recovery truck (pretty close to a real tank field recovery, sort of).
If that's not an option because of local enemies a plane or chopper strike could be directed to destroy the tank (just like reality OMG) so it can respawn.
I suddenly like PR more now for some reason...

Sure, abandoned vehicles are a pain in the ***- though instead of moaning about it, get an unarmoured car or heli to give you a lift out to the stranded tank or APC and rescue it.
At least if you get killed once you're in it, your side will get the respawning tank...

If there is a huge point penalty but points are worthless then there is no deterrent to me leaving equipment where ever I chose.

I don't understand why there is a penalty for damaging your own vacant vehicles. I was trying to destroy a friendly vodnik that was completely stuck somewhere and ended up getting something like -64 teamwork points.
