Desert-compatible Ghile Suit

Ok,this is something minor, since it only concerns the sniper class.

At the time the Ghile suit of the sniper is made up in a grass-like fashion. This is nice in green maps witch grass and bushes and stuff, but a big chunk of the battlefields are designed in desert or savanna area.

So,I saw the a Ghile Suit for snow a few days ago, basically a wide uniform with a hood.

Snow Camouflage]

So i thougt, this could also be possible for desert maps, only in a yellowish fashion.

I don't know how the sniper model is built up at the moment, but with luck only the grass-like stuff would have to be taken away and the suit underneath with the hood would remain and has only to be skinned in a desert camouflage.

Although this is low priority, I think sniper need this because with a scoped G3 e.g. it is possible to shoot targets at ranges which are not so far away from those a sniper shoots at.

So to make up for the lack of body armor and genades and whatnot, the sniper needs a better camouflage.

That's not really the problem.

Its the distance the camo renders that is a problem.

I totally agree the sniper Ghile should be suited to the terrain on every map.

thats the real problem, not the colour of the ghillie.

Exactly. By the time you're close enough to see the ghillie suit, it's already pretty obvious that you have a sniper in front of you, and, in fact, you probably noticed him before the ghillie suit started showing.

Ghilie suits are just for teammate-coolness show in openspace maps as you always can see those few different pixels on the hill.

This kind of sucks...wish there was a way around it. There is usually only like one sniper out there anyways for each side...it'd be nice if his main equipment worked (besides just his gun).

Not to mention, that snipers sitting on hilltops look like they're hanging in the air from 800m away, since the terrain renders so ridiculusly

The orgininal ghost recon did ghillies better than any game ive ever seen, you can crawl around in them mad ways ive had enemy snipers 2m away from me in that game.
different coding n game tho ofcourse

Ok,let me sum this up:

Apparantly, there is two things which have an influence on the looks of a player:
First, the basic model, which is usually seen from afar or when dead, and secondly, some kind of an overlay depending on the kit. The draw distance of the first can be changed(as seen in 0.6), the distance of the latter apparently not (...yet,hopefully).
So,assuming the draw distance for the "overlay" can't be changed, the only way to archieve this would result in making a new model with a hood, but this is not possible, since you can't actually spawn as sniper, and it would be far too much work for a class so scarce anyways...
So, as it looks like at the time, there is no way to change that.
Well, I can't blame anyone, besides the usual suspects of course....

partially because of the render/draw distances,
the scoped G3 owns ANY sniper rifle

Think we gotta accept for now guys that the problems with the render distance are unavoidable, it's a case of deal with it.

That said, a slightly less... shrubery... based ghilli suit *would* be nice for the desert maps purely from an asthetic point of view.

However there's far more to work on than asthetic issues with a severely limited kit, for now, I suspect!

Masaq, he was showing desert camo. Doesn't looked like they needed it though, with the sitting up and stuff.

Why are some of them only wearing ghillie hats? Are they displeased with the full ghillie look?

On topic I'm sure when the devs feel it's worthwhile modelling new ghillies they will do but until they sort the draw distance thing out there won't be much point.

I'm not sure whether that's from a real combat operation, and if it is, I guess they were at such a long distance as to make it unneeded or something? Hence the sitting up instead of the lying down, which appears to be what they usually do.

I always thought the snipers in bf2 looked like chewbaccas. So in vbf2 there were like 20 chewbaccas running around the main at the start of the level and I couldn't help but laugh to myself.

Heh, that's what I always think when I see a sniper.

"Oh god... my SL is a friggin Wookie *leaves squad*"

Also, the big picture with sniper who..er.. snipers looks more like a shooting range. You don't need a ghillie suit for a shooting range.
