View distance?

So this is what I'm wondering, Is there any way to beef up the viewing distance? I mean, I know the snipers see far and the tanks also have their new zoom feature, but trying to shoot an AT round at a tank that's further than my view distance is impossible. IRL those suckers go a LONG way. Just wondering.

Personally I really don’t think they could change the view distance or not significantly. I would think that would be a lot of work and if changed a little the distance would require a lot more computing power for a little bit of sight I would think. If they could change it I think there would have ben mentioned be for. If you want view distance get armed assault. Amazingly big maps, think they could be almost as big as long island witch is insane, graphics are not great but not horrible form what I saw after hearing about it on the other form, there better then half life 1.6 graphics probably like COD.

I dont mind the view distance just go into vid options. Make the view distance 100%

Yeah, view distance sucks. You can't see past 400 meters... if not, less

Yeah bf2 could do with some more view distance, on some of the chinese maps you cant realy see past 20 meters :-? ...

I down loaded a GTA san andreas mod were you got like 200% more view distance, i could see all the citys from the air while flying (!!!!) and it ran as smooth as it did before i had it installed but then again i have a pretty powerfull machine ( p4 3.6, 1 gig ram, ati x800 xt pe ).

I think an increase in veiw distance would be worth experimenting on for bf2, it could be made optional for those who have lower end machines.

i think at least on the stalemate map the limited view was intentional, as well as the view at karkand.

only problem with the optional increased view is that if it is drastic, some players will have a very bad dissadvantage.

I just did some tests myself. I doubled the viewdistance and fog. The values were changed from ~400 to ~800. Sorry the fps counter did not survive compression. The numbers read:

Original Distance - 85
Double Distance - 65

Now while this is an acceptable loss for me. I have a pretty high end computer, I doubt many other computers would take to this well. I suppose you could find a middle ground though, maybe a 50% boost or 25% boost.

I think that is good view. It would be good for flat desert tank combats. With us v iraq hehe

that is a lot beter then what it was, what your comp specs. i wish it could be more still but i dont think many comps could handel it. that would make the game so much beter if the distance was like that. the all guns would need an increas in there acuracy not there spary but initial acuracy and snipers would need to be even more. now at 300m the shot starts to move off the target about a 1/2 food radius

No i say make distance like take keep guns like they are in .2. Sniperes cant hit people from miles away.

I think the increase in view distance is almost needed for realism, it will grant the classes\roles like commander\sniper\tanker\pilot\anti-air\spotter the tactical advantages they need to function properly.

And on the question of fairness regarding people playing on lower end machines there are ways to work around this "handicap".
You dont have to play as the above mentioned classes\roles to be a important and valuable factor in your team or to get good scores, so great veiw distance isn't important for all players.
Seeing as this mods focus is realism and will have slower game play, the drop in fps is not as crucial as it would be in high speed run and gun games.

Oh and snipers do actually kill people form a mile away http://www.snipercountry.com/Articles/K ... Metres.asp

This is because BF2 maps are cluttered to death.

Way too much **** in one map.

Open maps need to have much less objects (as many of these objects are completely useless to strategy. Like putting a set of barrels in the middle of a field). Urban maps dont need to worry about view distance, so you can turn it down and increase the detail.

I'm still hoping for a map like Eastings in DC. I love that map. Love it, love it, love it.

so Let's work with that.

Commander: So they can use Binos (mabye?) to spot enemies quickly without having to go to commander view

Sniper: Well I say give em' a farther view distance with their scope. Not increase the zoom, just the view distance. Let em try to hit that spec on the horizon.

Tanker: Well I think the zoom works well. Add the view distance to that and perfect. (p.s. Didn't notice if that has been done already)

Pilot: You're moving so fast that by the time you see some armor you have already past over it! then you gotta come around again and shoot. Increase distance.

Anti air: Increase disance and lock on distance. Those sucker lock on from miles away and should be able to shoot at anything in the sky in their line of sight.

Spotter: Give the Sniper, Commander, and Spec Ops class a set of binos. They are the ones that do that stuff anyways.

Just the thoughts of one guy though
