I was just wondering if and when we will be seeing the F-35 for the british forces, i know strictly speaking it is only RAF & RN which are getting them but even still it would be nice to have them in there, maybe in a jungle map with the refuel/re arm point being in a little bull dozed area just big enough for VTOL, would be sweet that

The Brits are getting the Harrier. The F-35 won't be in service for a long time, AFAIK.

The F-35 will enter service in 2012 with the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm to replace the Harrier Gr.7s.

I thought when they came into service in 2012 the RAF and RN got them?

Great Britain will be receiving a Gr.7 Harrier and the USMC will be receiving an AV-8B Harrier II + I believe.

The Harrier is being phased out as we bring the JCA (F-35) in, its as much britsh as it is US, I think we should get a cool toy to play with lol

The Harrier is going to be the ground attack aircraft (equivelent to A-10/Su-25/Q-5). The F-35 would be the carrier fighter.

correct.

thou if we where ever going to have the F-35 in PR as the RNs fighter jet, we would really need to have the new RN carriers that are coming in 2012 too.

replace the Harrier Gr.7s.
Gr.9s :D

GR9 is currently replacing the GR.7 and will be the only Frontline Fast Jet, the RN will be using.

They say the F-35 will be here by 2012 coincided with the expected finishing of the CVF but everyone knows they wont be here till something more like 2020.

if you knew how hard it was to model, unwrap and skin a carrier you may understand why we aint going to make one for PR just yet.

So why doesn't the Harrier GR7 have a cannon?, and will the GR9 have a cannon when it comes into full service?

Hello all,

The GR7's gun was removed, It was unused and a bit pants.
And no the GR9 will never have the gun pod fitted.

With the adition of Brimstone to Harrier there will be no need for the gun anyway.

Also although the RN will get the F-35, The RAF will have them long before they ever get to touch them.

;0)

Keep up the good work guys.

Cool sig, Naldo, and welcome to the forums! :D

Let me see if I got this right:

-Harrier for ground attack (=A10)
-Eurofighter for regular air superiority (=F16)
-F-35 for carrier-based air superiority

So when will the Brits get the different aircraft?
