Noob Education Idea

Hey so this might be a little intrusive for a week or so but I think we should adjust the opening music that plays before each map...and include a voice-over tutorial on some basic guidelines and advice. It wouldn't be such a bad idea and only if we could have it for the first week or two so the noobs get a little info before being tossed in. I'd like to see it say something like "Don't be a SL if you are new, SL'ders main goal should be to direct his squad and establish good rally pt and ALWAYS have an officer kit....you must have 4 men together to drop one (this encourages everyone to stay focused and together)....vehicles should not be used by inexperienced players as they are very slow to spawn and will cause everyone to walk more or be dominated if wasted...don't sit in an APC/Tank\heli\jet driver or main-gun seat without crewman kit"

I feel like most guys just come in thinking its POE or vanilla when really it requires so much more with all the depth. A lot of guys just dont understand that but aren't total idiots...I think if they got a little advice before the game then it might decrease the learning curve and catch a few more dedicated players.

edit: On second thought, all music is clientside so this probably isn't feasible for current release.

There is a little tutorial in the opening of BF2142 (well, atleast on the demo anyway, I didnt get the game), perhaps implementing something similar to that?

The change is a no-go. Regarding the info, they have 2 guides. Two freaking well-made player guides. We need to accept that many of those new players do not want to learn a single thing.

Yesterday I joined a server to play. Must've been full of noobs because no one was using the VoIP. No communication (no matter how hard you tried). I started up my squad. I was trying to give them a 'heads up' in how to do things in PR. You know what they did? They left the squad or said "chill out" (maybe thinking I was angry because I always sound serious lol), or just ignoring what I said.

They have what they need in order to become better players. If they wont even listen, thats their problem, and the sooner they go away, the better.

Solution? If they join your squad and wont do as the SL says, kick them. I stood around in a 1-man squad for around 30 minutes until some guys that used VoIP joined. From that point on, quality went up a bit.

This one sounds good. There's things we're trying out for next release and if things go well, we might have a chance of doing something along these lines.

If they are willing to communicate I help everyone who needs help. Anyone else can RTFM or walk.

True story ghost, I just on a pub and nobody cares to listen really...anyone worth sticking around will just learn on his own. Hell we have sqauds, commanders, maps, waypoints etc and VIOP...wish I could close my business deals with PR resources.

EDIT: You know what I do like is the PR vets typing in advice for everyone on the pubs. It seems like a lot of help is out there trying to better the community in-game.

Yeah, I type "don't shoot the guys in green shirts and white trackpants, knife them!" every five minutes or something. People don't seem to care though...

i never read the manual. playing a video game is supposed to be fun, not homework. however, if players are courteous, i say teach em. its what separates us from counterstrike. if they are dicks, they can go back to playing counterstrike.

@ dune: i am colorblind (seriously), so i cant see the green. not my fault, physical handicap. :P

That's kinda what happens when people ask me on VoIP what the shovel is for.

I would hate it if that happened to me but I watched all of them and that segment .... " beep beep beep What the Fu...Boom " it's like a pavlovian trigger, i just start laughing.

So, Techo-Wizards of PR,,,, how do I do that over VioP ?
Without buying any new hardware ?

Change your recording device to stereo mix, get winamp or something else that allows you to use shortcut keys (or use a keyboard with extra play/stop buttons and separate drivers), turn down your game volume in BF2 (to 0, if possible), and then hit transmit and shortcut button for play.

Anyway, I was thinking all servers should autokick whenever someone uses the word "shovel" together with "what" in one sentence... Seriously, I wish BF2 allowed say binds...

I dont know if this was your case when you started, but most people that go by that logic are the ones that end up being d***s in-game and in the forums because they dont take the time to understand something on their own. Those kinds of players seem to be in need of already digested food instead of chewing it on their own.

If its so hard to read a manual, and understand very simple concepts, then they should stick to console games, where they can just button-smash their way to victory (or death). Notice that PC games do require more learning than console games, overall.

I'm daltonic, but I can tell that their clothes are different in look (no bullet-proof jacket on), not just in color. Its like a semaphore. Even if you cant see the red light, you would know that when the top light is on, you have to stop your car. No excuse there :-P

I have to admit it 25 min ago I team killed 8 n00bs that were pissing me off in 2 separate maps! First was on kashan desert there were 3 around a helicopter taking turns to try to fly and were wright in to text I cant fly the helo so I and like 10 other people said go to flag press T and request a piolet kit. But 2 sec l8er they all replied you don't need a piolet kit to fly helo so I told them again so then all 3 of em knifed me so i came got support kit was about to get into a vodnik bunt the noobs ran the chopper into it and BOOM. so i got pissed and joined the ther team and they wrre all requesting sniper kits and were all like omg why cant i get sniper. then next round there were 5 guys on desert storm who insisted on shooting the .50 cal on my hummvv at nothing and we got there they used 2 heavy at shot to kill both of are APC's then the thing that sent me ofer the edge was them nade spamming and using 3 round burst to shot at people who were 500m away and refusing to learn how to play properly so I was pissed and I knifed all of them they were like chill out doud this is how BF2 is supposed to be played I was like "YOU MOTHERFUCKING N00B DIP SHITS THIS IS NOT VANILLA BF2 WE USE TACTICS N00BS" then they were like yea right your a N00b 4 thinking that ten i got a temp 3 day ban!

Edit: sorry for the rant I was a wee bit drunk when i wrote it and when I was playing.

Do you learn punctuation in Canada? , seriously it hurt my eyes reading that.

You can't fight noobs with noob activity.

They probably teach punctuation in Canada, but I don't know about canada.

I agree with El_Vikingo. The three day ban was a just punishment.
