Todays noob is tomorrows veteran

ok i finally got some good playing time in on .6 today and wow, just WOW, the amount of new vanilla players is insane. it was total chaos in most of the servers i went to. No use of voip, Tks, no one knew how to fly or operate vehicles, you know the story.

I consider myself a semi-veteran ive been playing since .4 and all the veterans know what happens when a new version gets released, it gets advertised on the big BF2 sites {planetbattlefield, totalbf2 etc} and you get an influx of vanilla players and general noobs. then it dies off, many get annoyed at the lack or arcadeness and leave the mod, leaving those who truly like it and took the time to learn how to play.

I know its extremely frustrating with some of these people, but the point of this thread is we need to help them and encourage them to stay because in the end it will mean we have a larger player base and less empty/nearly empty servers. theres a good amount of players on this mod but we can always use more and better quality. so before you wanna go off on a noob, remember for this mod to survive we need people to embrace it instead of being turned off to it.thanks.

Yeah .. takes a bit. Open Beta play I had soem of my best online gaming experiences EVAR.

Main thing is... if you dont want to be helpful to folks .. just ignore them. They will either get a clue, or go away.

Yea I feel a bit spoiled by the beta, I had some great extremely organized matches and met many pr fans that I look to play with more often now. Generally if someone asks "whats the shovel for", or "who are the green guys" I answer the question and also suggest they check out the guide on the pr page.

the beta test period was AWESOME. hopefully this time around alot of these new people will stick around and get good and we will have lots of great players. one can only hope.

I found 3 (possibly Server side) bugs in Full that where not in Beta.
Commander instaboot
MEC APC cannon goes vertical
RPs dont give ammo.

Was pretty funny to see Teek saying in the server that this release was buggier than the beta... :p

I guess I will try to get my squad going instead of joining the dev's squads to try to help new players. All vets should be encouraged to do that.

I agree, after all PR is the most complicated and non-vanilla mod for BF2.

But like some of you said, new players should definately read the guide.

hehe yeah... during beta I came as DEV to be able to request stuff from server admins, get people to listen, etc.

But now I'm just a player ;)

'Todays noob is tomorrows veteran' indeed, and we should help the newcomers. However, we should also expect of them to have at least cast a brief glance on the guide. Not bothering to do even that is disrespecting the other players. If you agree, read this and help me lobby for the suggestion.

I follow one personal guideline.

Pwn, or BE pwned.
