Idea about jumping into the water

Although my guess is that this aspect of the game is hardcoded, some of my gameplay experience has suggested otherwise so here goes.

Currently, somebody can jump 50 odd feet into 6 feet of water (enough so you will swim rather than wade in it) and will just fall onto the surface of the water. My idea is that would it be possible to manipulate the characteristics of the water to allow the person to sink beneath it and float back up to the surface but incur only nominal damage providing they don't strike the bottom.

Before anybody starts clawing at their keyboard screaming like a madman "ZOMG t3h h4rdc0d3d111" I'm pretty sure most people have had an experience where when jumping into the water you will drop down below the surface and come back up however this is very rare for the most part and even if you do, you don't sink more than 2 feet. My thoughts are that there must be some variable that can be manipulated (gravity?) to simulate somebody with a full combat load jumping out of a helicopter, falling 10 feet, and plunging a good distance down before resurfacing. The realistic element to this would be in making people more careful of the depth of water they are jumping into so they don't kill themselves on the bottom.

And I suppose you could promote the use of blackhawks with pseudo fastropes where they hover over a body of water and bail out and safely swim to shore. :D

I know, I know, very minor change but if I'm correct in my assumption wouldn't take much effort to do.

Like you said, it's already in there, albeit minor and rare, it is still there.

It'd be nice to add, but it wouldn't be a priority, and since it doesn't alter gameplay, it probably won't be addressed until the mod is at 1.0 status.

Good idea, but ahead of it's time.

The one thing that is bugging me the most is the fact that you can fall from dizzying heights and safely land in the water with no damage whatsoever. Realistically, the water becomes concrete at about 100ft.

Fast roping is theoretical and is within the limits of BF2 hard coding. ;-)

I wish I had a vid of the high-diving display we did from the roof of the hotel into the pool below on Jabal al Burj............ Greg Luganis it was not: swallow dive, triple back somersaults, a tuck then perfect entry!

9.9... 9.9... 10... 10... 8.5... only the Lithuanian judge scored us lower than a 9.

That is there, I jumped off the Basrah hotel roof into the river and died...

This once for the DEVs, is it possible to modify the water density?

Was it not posible to modify air density? (For sounds?)

That's a joke right, or is it possible. I honestly think that each map should have atleast 1 transport chopper. I just love flying a BH.

You said you'd done it with your "friend" in your "own mod", which leads me to believe your even more full of BS.

I've fast roped off the back of a merlin as a civilian once, it just isn't very practical. Roped back in too.

Back to the case at hand, vikingo had a good point about water density. I'm curious about that.

its possible to drop from 300 "units" into the water and not be killed/seriously hurt

Sorry but I can't be bothered going through posts when Vikingo can tell me straight off in an aggressive fashion, why isn't it possible? Just interested cos you can do that whole pressing sprint while looking down a ladder/Grappling hook rope which makes you slide down. So I assume that's not the problem.

Also on the matter of stuff that's already been suggested has someone already mentioned getting rid of swimming since you probably wouldn't be physically capable of it with all that kit and if you got your weapon THAT wet you wouldn't be able to use it, would you?

Falling into water from great height is not deadly if the water is not too still.
