Support kit - use it!

Today I was playing in the Tactical Gamer server and joined the infamous "TG Assault" squad for 3 rounds. I was assigned the Support kit to help with suppression fire. I never used to use this kit, but now it's all I'm ever going to use. It's disasterous!

Using this class really taught me how to set up a good base of fire. I started calculating distances and areas of approach, as well as great points for an ambush.

Usually everyone is on the move and few pay attention to all of the little details in the maps, like the ledges, corners, barrels, etc. Usually the opposing side will consistently attack from the same location so if you setup a firing position with a support weapon you can COMPLETELY shut off an entire street until they bring heavy weapons or flank you.

If you're using a standard issue rifle or any rifle other than the Light MG, you'll often begin to receive returning fire about 3 seconds after you engage. This will usually give you enough time to kill 2 enemies at most since the recoil is such that you need to heavily adjust after every shot.

Not with the Light MG! When in prone unsupported position the recoil is strong, but the rate of fire is such that you can continously re-adjust your aim while firing. This completely screws them up because bullets are hitting around the entire squad and it messes with their senses (you know, the effect that occurs when a bullet hits nearby).

There are, of course, strict disadvantages to this kit -- which include range, amount of ammo, and reload time... but if used correctly it's very devastating.

Try it out!

the only problem with the support kit - esp the saw, is its tell tale sound. Everyone can hear it, and hunt that support gunner down. Thats fine if he has a strong squad backing him up though..

I like the kit but am rubbish with it. I tend to stay away from it because I cannot "see" the enemy in my sight well enough.

THAT IS MY SQUAD :)

Yea...I remember that very well. I dont normally have Support gunners in my squad, but after the display last round, I will start :) .

It provides great suppresion while the rest of the squad assaulted forward and once we were in place, he moved up. It was a great leapfrog movement ;)

What is your in-game name?

I rarely grab a limited kit (normally wind up a medic), but last night I snatched one on a whim while fighting on Sunset City. As soon as I picked it up our SL spotted an enemy firebase to the East of town (We were to the south by the river). While the the other members of the squad moved directly north to attack, I climbed up the ridge to the right of the firebase. By the time I got into position the rest of the squad had already engaged the half dozen enemy who were in the area. With the enemy distracted I was free to let rip with my QBZ-LMG (or whatever the Chinese rifle is) from above and slightly to the side at a range of about 100m. Within 15 seconds the firebase area was cleared and and engineer showed up to destroy the firebase itself.

Those guys never saw me up there, and I just mowed them down. Great fun.

Oddly I can use the PLA support weapon to far better effect than the USMC one.

support has no zoom, can easily taken out by scope rifles.
