AAS - The forgotten game mode?

I really don't get it. I think AAS is one of the best things about this mod however it's extremely rare to find a server that runs it. Of the 20 or so servers running PRMM now, not one of them has AAS running. In game today I was trying to see if I could get an admin to change the game mode (no admin present unfortunately) and was surprised to learn that most of the players had no idea what it was or that it even existed.
Let's face it, it's often difficult to get many players together to play PRMM at the moment and the running in circles style of play that is conquest mode gets boring fast with only a few players. With AAS, even 4 players on a server can make it great fun.
Our team will soon have a PRMM server up and running and it will be round the clock AAS. However in the meantime could server admins please add more AAS into your rotations?

Every server I have played in was AAS even though it didn't say it in the browser.

on the contrary almost every prmm server i have played on has been aas!
however this is a very good thing as i agree with you, even 4 player games are much fun with aas!

*** runs on Ghost Dogs server. Really brings a new perspective to the game. Fun. Without ***, I find the game too unorganised.

yeah and you get alot better firefight when EVERYONE is going for the same flag. Your team really need to break into two teams: defense and advance.

Yep, AAS is the solution to pubby cohesion problems.
If you jump on your random PR server and say "Let's switch to this mod's AAS mode, it's much more fun.".
Garaunteed you will get replies such as, "What's AAS?".
I think it has to do with the fact that it wasn't really advertised that well when the minimod was released. Personally, I never even knew about it until someone told me 0_o

AAS was what brought me to PRMM in the first place. I agree with you Artnez. I have found the "what's AAS?" comment many times.

Not to mention its the solution for few player counts.
I played on some Ziip server last night (or something like that) but it wasnt very fun even if we where enough people to play (like 3 or 4, lol. Though later some more joined).
Why? It was 64 player Sharqi.
You dont have to be a rocket engineer to figure out how good half a dozen players (in total) would play that type of map...
If it had been AAS on the other hand, we could have quite a fight around the flag in question.
Edit: Though I must say that the constant messeging has to be fixed. This type of AAS is not quite good. There is another type which also locks flag but it change the graphics of the flag I believe. It was a while ago so I cant remember it. PLEASE DEVS MAKE THIS TOP PRIORITY TO BRING A GOOD AAS MODE!!! IT IS *VITAL* FOR KEEPING FEW PLAYERS INTERESTED!!!

This is exactly what I mean about AAS. With the current issues we're having with finding enough players (although that does seem to be improving, good to see many jumping on the Public Relations band wagon on BF2 forums!) the AAS mode makes so much sense that I'm very surprised it's not the most common kind of game in rotation.
In fact, the best games I've had of BF2 ever have been with AAS on a 16 player server with 32 player maps. Everything gets slowed down and it becomes more of a battle of wits rather than a battle of twitch skills. I tend to find that PRMM gets way too crazy with a full 32 player server - constantly spawning and getting killed before you can even move an inch. But this is just me, in all FPS I've liked the small games more than massive games. AAS allows small games to work perfectly whereas with conquest mode small games have never stood a chance.

Small games with Conquest work, but its too limited. You can only have so many flags over so big of a combat area. Few flags over a large area means too much running, too powerfull vehicles. Few flags over a small area means you dont get to see much of the map and its best to only have infantry combat.
With AAS, the issues are completely removed. You can have 20 flags and still play like it was a mere 2 flags. You can cover the entire map, varying fighting and scenery. Flags can be far apart or placed in clusters. And there is no worries about "just focusing on one" flag as opposed to the "free for all" gameplay of Conquest: Just have multiple flags open. AAS with all flags open is just that, Conquest. But Conquest can NEVER be AAS no matter how much it tries.

Why not release PRMM 0.3 with some new goody item and AAS as the only option available (or default if you want to be less severe)?
I agree, *ALL* servers should run AAS. I've been in servers where new people join and they go "Whats AAS" and everyone pretty much explains. They get it within a few minutes. There's enough spam messages at the top left to explain.

I was suprized to see a bunch of people trying to cap flags
in the wrong order despite all the text saying which flag to go to.
People nowadays..
One thing is you can't be so sneaky anymore: the enemy can easily
see where you are going and try to stop you, but that makes for
an exciting war.

Well, yes and no. In my experience with the landot AAS variation (the one that all the servers run), they enlarge the cap radius to insane sizes. From what I've read, it's supposed to portray how you have to secure the surrounding areas of the point, as well as the areas closer to the flag. With the large cap sizes, you could sit stealthily near the outside of the cap radius, tens of meters from the flag and away from any defense.
And it's funny when people call this mod "***" intead of "AAS". Gotta love that ***.
