M249 On Abrams/7.62 Machinegun on Bradley

In real life most of the time, there's three gunners on an M1 Abrams, one on the 120mm.,one on the 50cal.,and another on the M249 SAW,that's usually mounted next to the 50cal.,so will that be added in anytime soon,or could it,with an extra gunner seat? Also when the U.S. ARMY is put into PR,and the Bradley IFV/CFV,is re-done ,i'm hearing with AT Rockets in the missle pods, instead of Stingers, will it also be getting it's 7.62 machinegun next to it's Bushmaster enabled? And will six seats be added in the back, cuz it can carry six troops in real life.?

Would require a remodelling of a brand new M1A1 or permission from USI.

PR uses Driver and Gunner system, there is no need for a M249.

Do theyy even use a m249? I thought it was a 240(?).

I'm pretty sure they use an M249,But,I I don't really care if it is ever on there, doesn't really matter to me,it's just a sugeestion.

Well, EA models can be edited (Look at the BTR-90 and LAV-25), but who knows what the future will bring.

Yea.

I thought about that, cuz the LAV-25,BTR-90,and Type 92/WZ551 (chinese APC) had the TOW missle pods removed, without completly making new models...

If you are referring to the TOW launchers those were added via code to the APC's by dice so all PR did was remove the code.

Well that is editing to me.

But it's not editing the models themselves, so there's a difference.

Nope, the TOW is still there, you just can't see it :)

It's modified.
Period.

From I have learned, DICE doesn't care if you add stuff via code (CROWs Humvee) but they do not want you to touch the actual model.

You are technically modifying it but DICE doesn't care, its the other modifying they care about.

From what I have learned, the DICE models themselves cannot be edited. But if you want to, lets say, remove the .50 cal on a jeep, you can do just that and replace it with some random weapon mount you want. Other than that, the models cannot be touched.

In my opinion, we should get rid of the .50 cal mount on the Abrams and have the M240 mount instead. After all, the Driver is also the Commander so it would make sense that he's under the hatch.

It's a waste IMO. One driver, gunner, commander and top gunner.... that's 4 people per tank.

The Tank commander is actually always on the 50cal.

The tank commander keeps his *** alive and stays buttoned up in the tank so he can designate targets to his gunner and generally try to keep the tank alive. The driver view simulates using the commander's CITV on the top of the turret. Keep it as is as the driver gets the commanders view and is basically the tank's commander. If you actually tried putting the tanks commander on the .50 in PR you will find yourself minus 1 commander very quickly

Since the loader operates the M240 on his hatch, there is not going to be anyone loading the main gun if he's up there and the commander is engaging targets with the .50. Right now in-game we have the driver and "commander" positions combined, with the driving POV being from the CITV. The loader's M240 will not be added anytime soon, if ever, since you won't find anyone willing to man the gun anyway. The commander's .50 can be operated from the hatch down position, but that would require a remodel, and a re-examination of the driver/commander system.

The Bradley in-game right now is the Linebacker Short-range Air Defense Vehicle. The Linebackers have been withdrawn from service and are being reconfigured (re-reconfigured?) as IFVs and CFVs. If implemented, yes, we will combine the driver/commander positions, keep a separate gunner and leave 6 passenger slots (some Bradley variants can carry 7). It will also have the coaxial MG.

According to FAS.org, the commander has a .50 cal (which is supposed to function as an AA MG in tight situations too :roll :) and the co-ax is an M240 (the US military's medium-heavy machine-gun), not an M249 (which is a squad-level weapon a la the Support kit). The loader should control another M240 on a skate mount next to the commander (mounted just like the .50 cal is), in much the same fashion, but having 4-man crews in PR is very cumbersome. The driver only drives and controls the smoke launchers, and needs a periscope to see where he's going.

The commander's job is to spot targets and direct both the gunner and driver, possibly the whole platoon, so he CAN'T just stay buttoned up the whole time, and needs more visibility than the driver's periscope can provide. The commander DOES have a periscope for when he IS buttoned up (and the .50 cal can be controlled by remote control on newer Abrams), but this is currently not possible in 0.6
