Player Damage from Jumping out of vehicles and Collisions.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how annoying it is when i see someone speeding up to a flag at full speed, jumping out of the vehicle, going prone, letting off like half thier clip and killing 4 guys that were capping the flag. (slightly exaggerated)
I think it would be a positive enhancement to PR if we were to make players take a substancial amount of damage from jumping out of moving vehicles. This would enhance gameplay in so many ways IMO..PoE did this and it worked very well.
Now another thing that kind of ties in with this I see all the time. Some guy is flying at top speed in a HMMWV, comes around the corner, sees me standing next to the wall, turns and smashes right into me killing me, then proceeds to drive away...
Now I know the vehicle itsself would be pretty banged up IRL from a collision with a concrete wall at 40-50mph, but the person inside would be in much worse condition.
Not sure if it's possible but i think it would be awesome if players could take damage from vehicles colliding into things. Now damage would only be taken at a faster speed of course. But i think this is another essential feature that, if possible, could enhance the realistic experience in PR...

Also, i wonder if it would be possible to add the BLURRING effect (same effect from explosions, maybe without the heart beat) when jumping out of vehicles at high speed?
That would REALLY set some standards..

Should make it so that when you jump from a moving vehicle your body flies straight ahead until gravity gets you down or you hit something hard enough to stop or even kill you.

Great ideas.
Not going after your idea here.. but in general, lol, so many people have recommended the blurring effect for so many situations that the entire mod could turn into a big blur if it was all truly considered... ie:
- Spawn (blurring effect)
- Get shot from a distance as you advance (blurring effect)
- You drop to the floor (blurring effect)
- Medic heals you.
- Artillery hits (blurring effect).
heh... that would be cool.
Anyway, back on topic
The whole vehicle debate is a hard one... simply because few of us know what the BF2 engine is truly capable of.
I've said many times that I think the engine only allows you to change a bunch of configuration values (change 1 to 0, or change a distance number).... no one has yet to refute this, so I'm assuming it's true.
As far as I've seen, there's no way to modify how the engine itself deals with objects. You can only set properties for these objects.
Anyone care to say if this is truly true or not?

Maybe you could trip and drop your kit and have to pick it up again.

I actually chuckled outloud on that one.

LOL...That would be funny..Surprisingly its not too far fetched, realistically speaking..Sort of a simulation of dropping your weapon? I kinda like it.

They should die, in off road vehicles like the hummer there are
no crush zones like in a civilian car. Technically it's nothing else than one of those old cars from the 1940-1960. Stiff and sturdy, no survival space for the passengers in case of a crash because all the power is transfered directly to the passengers and not into the chassis.
And of course stepping out of a running vehicle should do the same. I don't know anybody who could jump out of a vehicle doing 50mph without taking damage ( except superman

Very good point. I think the death should obviously be determined by the speed of the crash..You dont wanna bump into a wall and die. lol.

Sure not
Does somebody remember the movie "Top Secret" where the german car "bumps" the other then explodes??

mmm flying further when exiting a vehicle.
That would have some fun minigames on its own (think flatout)

@ draakje, welcome to the forums
anyway, this would definetly be something that adds to realism. imagine getting out of a car at 120 km/h and not getting injured. pretty impossible. but this is one of those things you have to be really careful about. it's very easy to overdo and kill gameplay.

Indeed. The damage that is done should be relevant to the speed the vehicle is traveling, as i said before.
The question now is, is it possible? I know the damage when exiting a vehicle is very much possible. But how about player damage when a vehicle makes a high speed collision? How about death if the vehicle flips over?
Tanks are exceptions though. I dont think that players should take much damage at all when a tank collides with much of anything.

BuMp..
Any further comments on this or are we done with it? Developers want to make any comments?

Yo, GRB, I made a squad yesterday at about 5 pm and when I came back at around 12 am, it was still around (DIVING SQD).
Its initial purpose was to jump off of the hotel at Oman and into the pool.

LOL...I remember that. I was on for a little while, until my mouse broke, remember?
Yea, got a brand new one!
