I was playing for a little while today (before lag set in  ) and non of the squads i joined before i stopped were using mics, is it like this on all the servers or is it just the one i was on? because when i played the beta almost every squad had at least 3 or 4 guys with mics

I lead a squad today where only one guy had a mic. It was a great squad and they followed orders to the tee but the lack of mics really hurt.

Please people, get a mic. It makes the game so much better.

i have a mic, but its built in to my mac. it works fine on stuff like vent and ts, but for some reason bf2 makes it so quiet its not even worth using in game. anything?

Theres been a few servers I have been in when no squads used voip. Even the voip squads didnt use voip and they were scattered all over the map.

imo its the influx of new players, and they come over thinking they can "lone-wolf" there way to victory.... but if someone in my squad doesnt have a mic and comes from the UK, i point them to tesco - technika headset + mic £9.97 and they work great coz i have a pair (after i smashed my logitech ones in a fit of rage)

You know the story:
round 1, SL creates squad VoIP, everoyne communicates
round 2, SL or SMs leave, others join
round 3, new SL has no mic, is a sniper lone wolf
round 4, you join a VOIP squad full of rambos.

And here we are

I make a squad called "VOIP only" oand i end up being the only VOIP - not quite what i intended but i suppose the sqaud name isnt wrong.

Heh.

I joined a squad last night, and gave my usual greeting: "Squad Leader, Call Sign Red joining. What kit do you require"

Silence

"Squad Leader?"

"Squad Leader? Do you have voice comms?"

I clicked leave and joined the "VOIP TMWRK" squad that I just saw being created. Had a great round.

I have seen the same trend going from .5 to .6
I have have only played a short time but I've realised that VOIP is alpha and omega.
Yesterday I played on 5 or 6 different servers and only a couple of times did I come over a squad with at least 1 member using VOIP, on one server I played on two squads were named VOIP, and none actually used them :(

Yes, in the current state it's quite hard to get in a good, communicating squad.
Usually I'm so unlucky, that I join the non-communicating team (the one that's loosing the whole round)

@Red Halibut: I suppose it was you, hunting down the damned amphibious civilian on Gloryhounds' Al Basrah yesterday.
I was the other, unlucky guy with invisible mines :D .
Had great fun till the server crashed  .

That was me! A great little piece of teamwork right there.

As a quick explanation, dear readers, we had a civilian spotter in the water just by the bridge north of the CP on Al Basrah yesterday. Whenever we got near he would run into the water, making it impossible to capture him, but in essence he was calling out all our positions.

Myself and (was it you deadfast? ) one of the other squaddies decided we were going to play a little cat and mouse with this guy, so I crept around the north side while my squad mate made himself visible on the south. True to form this guy heads for the water every time he so much as got a whiff of good old British Issue Brut 33 ("Splash it on all over", says 'enry), so we provide a little diversion.

Our squadleader (excellent chap, good co-ordination and tactics, I'd give him a thumbs-up in the Player recommendation thread if I could remember his name) rocks up in the landrover, we "appear" to get in and drive off, but actually there are two of us left, covering the north and south banks. Eventually the civi drags his sodden Nikes out onto the north bank so I tell my Squaddie on South to make himself seen and keep spotting the guy. I crawl round his back when I hear "He's directly south of you on the riverbank, go get 'im!".

I'm up and running immediately, wishing I had a fairbairn-sykes instead of my standard issue pig-sticker. Bang! One thrust to the kidney, another to the head and our civi is lying on the ground in handcuffs.

An excellent round that was on GH, it's just a shame the server went tits-up.

Yep, it was me on the other bank  .

You forgot the part with the other British guy, driving him back to the water and then swiming behind him like a shark for about 3 minutes, before we've managed to explaing him, that he's not gonna get him this way :D .

Oh Yes! Shuggie "The Elephant" McGruntface decides he's going to take potshots at the little beggar and when it finally penetrates his skull that he really isn't supposed to shoot unarmed civilians he decides to join him for a swim. I reckon all that "hearts and minds" stuff went to his head.

Nice bit of teamwork mate!

So, in response to the OP - There are still good VoIP squads out there, you just have to be prepared to leave a squad if the SL won't answer your kit request. :)

Just make your own squad, like I do, when all the rest are rubbish

Maybe the VOIP squads were on Teamspeak , Ventrillo or some other god only knows what VOIP system.

I really don’t know why people use these programs any more for in game communication. Creates a mass of unnecessary confusion. Were fine years ago before VOIP became almost standard fare for online games but not needed anymore.

-A good tip I got from somone around here was to disband the entire squad when you're SL and have to leave(Especially when it's got "VOIP" in the name). I do find myself yelling at my SMs more right now because they can't get the simple concept of "staying together," I hope it will get better soon. There's also a lack of army-lingo knowledge which makes it hard to communicate efficiently sometimes as you have to explain what you just said. But then again, when somebody asks me to go to the "berm"(Very common on Helmand) my eyes just glaze over and I stand there drooling... Hmmm, forgot what I was saying now... Berm... Berm... Ber..

I want to know where the guy named " Mike Czech " is because people are always asking for him.
