Hey suggestion for Snipers, what about a surveillance, target, and Aacquisition eh, because If theres going to be a Sniper team Shooter/Spotter the Spotter is gonna need one of them for telling the shooter where the target is....and the distance.

And also for the US side on urban maps why dont you make it so you can have a extra uniform skin like wearing the kevlar helmet kevlar vest just like the US medic class.

Because some Snipers in Iraq arnt wearing GhillieSuits when in Urban enviorment commn sense.

One cant really demand of snipers to need a 2 man crew. It wont work well.

But I agree in that some of the classes other classes should be given a binocular with even more zoom than the sniper scope. There isnt any need to go together (and there certainly isnt any extra score for it as it would be now), but it would be nice if the possibility was there. Just set up and start spotting for the snipers!

The other thing you are talking about is what I think should be a second sniper class, the marksman. A long range automatic rifle (more SVD style, or a G3 with a scope), body armor in a regular outfit but no grenades, no claymores and a regular pistol. Maybe he could get that binocular and act as a support to the real sniper as he has the best close/medium range rifle (for protecting the sniper/whoever against closer infantry threats).

On that note the MEC/PLA should get a real sniper rifle similar to the M24 (ignoring the unlock).

dont be suprised if the designated marksman replaces the sniper on some if not most maps, as far as making another class just for the spotter its not worth it, id rather just see the assault or spec ops class get binoculars

What do you need binoculars for?? It's 500m view distance max. You can't see any further when using it.

thats a very good point,

however id dint say the Binocs should see farther than the sniper, i for one want them back the way they were in DC, i used them all the time in those days

I disagree on both points.

500m is quite far for the human sight. Ok, you can easily distinguis an M1A1 between a T92 at 500 m. How about a sniper? How about a group of infantry prone in the grass? I assume here that at some point the silly floating names will be removed. Without binoculars, expect a lot more cases of team casulties or false reports... even at 500.

On magnification, usually binoculars have much less magnification then sniper rifles scopes. Usually scopes are around what? 10x or 20x? I would find 10x a bit too high for normal binocular use. Values around 4x, 6x or 7x or something are often better. Those are often more interesting in most applications as they give you a much wider field of view then high power scopes.

Binoculars with higher magnification then sniper rifle scopes would really miss the point IMO. Maybe introduce a spotting scope if you need something with high power.

My regular binoculars I have start at x7 zoom and go utpo x14. Military ones start about the same but some of the better ones go utp like 30 and beyond! Anyway, even if you had the full 500m view distance in maps you'd still have obsticals like the terrain and buildings and what not.

You may not be able to see further, but you can obviously see more clearly. Even at a lowly 300m a soldier lying prone isnt that many pixels... A sniper that doesnt move is near invisible if you arent looking at him or know he's there. A binocular would enlarge it considerably.

The Target Acquisitionist for a sniper does not use binoculars. They use military range finders that have a way higher zoom level than the rifle but are always used at almost exactly the same zoom level as the scope. The acquisitionist tells the sniper how far the target is, how many clicks down and to the left or right the gun should be aimed, based on the distance of the target and the rifles effective targetting zone, which both the acquisitionist and the rifleman already know from target practice. This will ensure a one shot one kill and takes a LOT of patience.

This would not be possible in BF2 (PR)...No one sits still long enough for anything like that to happen. IRL, snipers are used to take out extremely vital targets.(gaurds on patrol, military advisors, military commanders..etc.) In BF2 (PR) we do not have anything like that.

I wish we could have a sniper system like that it would be amazing. But i dont think a lot of people would enjoy that. And as Beckwith already stated, to add a whole new class (target acquisitionist) would not be worth the effort because chances are, no one would use it.

Very good suggestion though.

GRB is spot on there.

We still need Binocs though. The beauty of Binocs is not that they zoom far (which they dont), their beauty is that they are wider in vew, allowing you to see much much more.

My fav. thing to do in BF1942 when sniping was quickly switch between the binocs and the rifle.

EDIT: Devs IF YOU do add the binocs, KEEP THIS IN MIND, you must make it so that the Binocs either shake or are way off of the reticle. People will try to use to the Binocs to the position their shorter range rifles.

So when designing the Binocs, please don't give them a crosshair or any of those lines.

GRB, exactly my point. Binoculars are not made for that job.

Also, high power binoculars tend to be a bit bulky. Never seen 30x binoculars, but if you want a reasonable throughput they must be quite bulky (and heavy). I've seen such binoculars used by naval forces (e.g. on the bridge of a ship), but I wouldn't want to drag them around the field.

I'd rather have binoculars around the low-mid magnification figures for use in the 500-1000m range, with reasonably wide field of view. Something like the Elcan binoculars used in the CF.

i dont think he was refering to your specific request as a demand, so much as if the action were followed thru

TBH i think it'd be cool, solo and i played mashtuur in PRMM (actually i think it was the day of the .2 release, and we were a 2 man sniper team on a roof spotting out and then taking down targets. it could work well.

Well, yes, view distance won't change with or without binoculars however you will be able to see more detail. I know models in the game, like tanks and infantry, will "disappear" after a certain amount of distance. Atleast having binocs and being able to take a closer look will point 'em out.

Also, if binocs are made, can they have multiple zoom settings? even just two. medium and long range. Medium range just for getting a better picture but still being able to see quite a bit. I know when I am sniper, I very often will pull out my pistol and zoom in with it, just so I can see objects a little further away without having zoomed in SO much that my visibility is limited to a very small circle.

Of course not, but your suggestion would make demands ;)
