Gas Gas Gas

Hi All
I have only just found PR (after months without PC), played on a few maps and servers, just want to say, CRACKING MOD!!!
(I have been waiting for a mod like this since the days of UrbanT)
I am usually a forum shadow (ie. Just pop on now and then and read topics)
I have searched the forums and don’t think it’s been mentioned before? So I thought I’d add my 10 pence in…
There’s no use of the TEAR GAS and GAS MASKS like in BF SF
(or maybe I’ve missed this?)
Just thought this would be a great added feature for 0.7
Maybe just map or side specific?
(If it can be done and isn’t hard coded) Maybe arty chemical drops from the Mec or Chinese regular instead of shells, forcing the Brits / Americans to pop gasmasks on?
Just thought I’d pop this on here and see what everyone else thought

This could be useful for clearing rooms and buildings.
I don't think it would be hardcoded;you could probably just have a smoke grenade that blurs your vision.

I doubt that teargas is used on a regular basis by regular soldiers on the field.
The chemical warfare idea is somewhat original though.

Probably not, plus I can see people'accidently' throwing tear gas into a group of teammates

Whilst it's a good suggestion,I not sure if it's really a priority with all the other stuff been done for 0.7.

aint teargas used on riots and such, maybe it could be used in insurgency maps?
sure, nervegas would be fun, But why drop gas on troops that can easily put on masks when you can drop a bomb?

There was teargas back in 0.4.
It was a disaster.

Well that solves it.

I like the idea. Would help clear areas or catch civilians. I'm all for it. The developers have a lot of other stuff to work on though. I wonder what class would have the tear gas? Grenadier? Support?

If tear gas was implemented in, I'd say the grenadier should get it because they already get flashbangs, so why not tear gas? Just get rid of that tear gas gun and just make a new tear gas model. Besides, not much people use the grenadier kits considering that kit is pretty important...
There was also missing content from BF2 Special Forces, it was called "poison gas", perhaps the insurgents or militia can get some?

Well honestly, it was only a disaster because Street was such a choke point-centric map. I imagine that it could be done in other maps. But then we'd have to issue everyone gasmasks also, as otherwise you'd just lay tons of teargas on the flag you're trying to cap, making all your opponents go shroomy.

It could work, but like u said, too be fair all would have to have gas masks, but the way to make it work is that it could be a limited kit or a pick up kit, or only squad leaders can have a can or 2. on certain maps that is, a bit like the flashbangs.

It could work. If:
1. Conventional forces vs Insurgents only (imo, that should apply to Flash Bangs too.)
2. All conventional troops issued with gas masks
3. Issued as part of a limited kit (possibly new round for grenadier).
4. The MEC crewman kit gets a P90.
Even then, however, I'm still not 100% on the idea. It definetly shouldn't be on conventional vs conventional maps.

Hahaha. LOL @ #4.
But I agree.

i like the idea of poison gas, for insurgents the could have a bomb they throw or if u put it to conventional armies have it a bomb dropped from a jet or something 2 call in for the commander
also have so when u put on your gas mask u have shorter sprint (harder to breath in gasmask) and after a while the lenses fog up or something like that

I dunno about the rest of your ideas Bob but I'm with you on the 4th

The threat of chemical warfare is something the real forces out in the middle east face day to day and since this is project reality just thought it might just be an interesting route to feature, I don't think anyone else out there has touched on this in a fps, im not saying they should wear the full NBC get up or anything like that tho
The p*st up (drunk) vision on BF SF is a great feature (features slightly when hit in PR yeah?), the gasmask was a great feature too (reminds sooooo much of the film 'Who Dares Wins'
Maybe give the Mec conventional the ability to launch chem drops, and conventional western force masks to deal with the threat of chem drops (Not sure the western forces use chems do they? well, only in there barracks)
Maybe give the western force the ability to launch tear gas from Warriors / APC's and grenadiers, or even setup static mortars etc, and the Mec conventional forces masks to deal with this.
Like the idea of masks hindering your performance and also the effects tear gas could have on the civvies on insurgent maps (how about a mounted hose on a Warrior lol)
Can't imagine Poison on the battlefield, all coming out in there skin tight purple zebra leggings and fur guitar straps!

(nah poison gas would be cool)

Would be great to catch those damn civilians.
Gaybombs anyone?

This it Project REALITY, so...
#1, all forms of chemical warfare are prohibited by the Geneva Convention, including tear gas. US, GB, and China would not risk using them, for both practical and political reasons.
#2 Chemical weapons are inherently dangerous to the user, unstable, hard to produce, and hard to deliver effectively, and have a short shelf life, which is the real reason the US started to get rid of them back in the 70's. Nukes are much easier weapons to work with and have more predictable results. All of which amounts to the unlikelyhood that MEC forces would use them (insurgents would love to, but even with them laying around all over Iraq they still have not been able to do so).
#3 To date, there have not been any "real*" chemical weapons used in the current Mid East conflict (last known use was during the 1st Gulf War when chemical minefields were used against coalition forces during Operation Desert Storm).
* Strapping C-4 to a 1-ton tank of chlorine, while dangerous and lethal, does not fit the tactical definition of chemical weapons, they are hard to transport, hard to use effectively, and non-persistant.

I'm pretty sure there actually are cases from Iraq where insurgents have set off IEDs with old chemical artillery shells... Still. Its only like 1 or 2 or these things vs 1,000s of conventional IEDS...
