Hey guys, I would like to see the ghille suit for the sniper being more effective. ATM it is no better than a regular soldier in greens. I believe if I am lieing in grass with a ghillie suit on, no one should be able to see me until they virtually walk on me

I agree and this discussion is well voiced throughout BF2 - I also think the name tag should be barely visible.

Just wait for DICE to program soldier-to-terrain blending into the graphics engine.
Its BOUND to happen soon!

This is DICE/EA we're talking about here. Give us something we WANT? MY GOD! Are you mad? I'm sure they'd add it though eventually. I'll start to save up for addon number 4.

Well i like this idea but its hard for me to find sniper anyways. In strick at karkand me and my squad leader were in a house. Out side of the hotel. We layed there on the ground for around 10 mins then all of a suddent i saw this spot on the roof looking at me. He was just looking at me and i pretended i dident see him. He just kept look at me. As if i was on his team. Then i spotted him and me and my squad leader took him out.

I never have any problems with the suit. The trick is to not hide in the grass unless you are in a "low traffic" area. I can hide under a bush in the middle of an enemy camp, pick people off from point blank and it takes them at least 3 minutes to find me if I dont move. Just learn how to use it with the terrain to your advantage and you will do good. I went a round that lasted about 45 minutes without getting seen or shot at once and I left with 32 kills.

This is something i would like to see changed....being a big sniper fan i think a good suit will make it a whole lot sweater.

Well i like it how it is. The devs dont need to do more work they need to get the important stuff done. Like the a-10 and the tank system. The sniper is fine. The good sniper would of been trained to only move like 50 meters a day. Also never stay in the same spot. One thing tho is maybe give the sniper a camo blanket that they cant move but they cant be seen.

The suit works really well. The problem is that sniper players think they can lie anywhere and no be seen.
The number one sniper mistake I see all the time is a player runs to the top of a moutain and snipes from there. Well we can all see the bump in the moutain, and some of us with lower video card settings, you apper to be floating in mid air.
Some Tips, never sniper from an moutain top.
Two, never snipe from an open field (even if you think your in grass).
Three, always shoot threw a bush, dont stand / lay in it.
Four, use something that looks like you, to hid near.
Five, Dont move / looking around you stand out like a sore thumb. (stay looking in one direction)
And SIX, dont take everyshot, only ones that count (this is the major problem with sniper players, they want the score)

Well I think there could be one addition for the sniper as I too am a sniper fan (although I don't usually get the chance to be one on PR).
My idea is just a change of skin/ ghille suit, map dependant of course. Meaning that if you were on a desert map, the sniper's camo should resemble that of the desert floor, as with the gun. This would be different with all the maps too.
You know, match the majority of the environment so you can remain hidden, even in wide open areas. At least to the untrained eye.

BF2 engine limitations (?)
You are visible from longer distances, no matter how good is your ghillie suit from short distances. It got something to do with draw distance (from longer distance you are just a silhouette without any weapon, ghillie suit, backpack or other equipment).

From what I have witnessed from constantly being a sniper in vBF2 playing the Strike at Karkand map, I believe the problem with the ghillie suit lies in the color of the suit itself in contrast with the color of the plants and terrain. The MEC sniper for example is only at an advantage of not being seen right away if he is under a few bushes because his suit is so dark compared to the lighter colored sand and dirt. However, the US sniper suit is easily distinguishable but in a lighter, more desert like color. Again, he has to hide in some shade. But this is all vBF2 where UAV is abundant and trying to hide is difficult to do. Correct me if I'm wrong.
However, using the ghillie suit is easier in PR because of the long view distance. The only disadvantage is the guy looking at you who has his settings down lower than others. Other than that, I have found it most effective hiding in the grass at Basrah.

The real problem is as someone said - it's not the shade of the suit, or how much vegitation it's got on it - it's the fact that beyond a certain distance, the game stops rendering the suit entirely.
At that range, it doesn't matter if you're a sniper, rifleman or pilot - your outline and colour will be the same.

*Agree*
But in fact that's really hard to get a 'perfect' ghillie suit... every suit would have to be made for each map. The vegetation is different everywhere. Even if there would be ghillie suits for all maps, all of that terrain and vegetation in a map is different too.. so you will never get a 'perfect' ghillie suit with which you can't be seen.
Yeah, the Devs could remake it anyway.. the currently one is really a bit 'poor'

the problem is the grass sprites stop rendering after X amount of meters, and especially for snipers, at long distances will stand out like a sore thumb, theres not much they can do other than change the skin.
