Did BRDM-2 really had no optic sight!? Did the engineer had too much vodka?

I'm talking about that rusty old Soviet armored car the militia get.

Why did it not have any sort of optic or sights for it's turret? Correct me if I'm wrong. The turret on BRDM-2 was the same as the ones found on BTR-60PB, which indeed had a sighting system for the guns.

But for the sake of argument, lets just say those militia mechanics did a poor job at maintaining the vehicle, and the optics just got rusted so badly it became unusable. So they took it out and expected the gunner to aim via tracer only.

Then shouldn't it at least get a zooming function? I mean, every mounted heavy machineguns in PR can be zoomed in, even for the ones that had no useable ironsights.

At the moment the BRDM-2 is very much in need of buff. Yes, I know it's an infereor vehicle cause it's very old. But as of now, there's pretty much no reason for it to even exist in the game. Few people use it for transport since there are so few seats in the vehicle, and the handling is so poor that it tips over all the time. The driver seat has some weird graphic issue that results in screen lag. And finally the turret is a ***** to aim, without even a zoom function that every other machineguns get. Heck, just about every firearms in the game short of pistols have somesort of zoom.

It's simply a rusty metal coffin on wheels in it's current state. Hell, I wouldn't even trust it to carry a corpes since it tips over so damn often. :-x

The BRDM is a unique peice of equipment, and it doesnt do much harm to any vehicles at all, optics isnt a problem as you got a machine gun, use the tracers of the machine gun, and then use the "bigger" gun

Agree the BRDM needs some loving, IRL its cool as hell, in PR its very weak against everything

My point being even if for some reason developer doesn't want it to have optics. BRDM's turret should still get a zoom like those mounted heavy machine guns. Since every mounted weapon get some sort of zoom, even the ones without useable sights. So why shouldn't BRDM-2 get a zoom for it's turret?

It's handling need to be fixed as well. At the moment it handles even worse than trucks. It feels so top heavy that it tips over all the time.

And what's with the free-look screen lag while in driver's seat?

The only thing I kinda like about BRDM-2 is that it's side gun ports have wider view than all the other modern APCs we see in PR. But people pretty much never use the gun ports.

(Speaking of which, gun ports are vastly underrated amongst the players. I personally have became very good at killing people trying to sneak up on APCs with them, but that's a different topic entirly.)

I've always wondered, if the militia in Mestia are supposed to be weapon traders (yes, I actually read the premission statement), you would think they'd get themselves some better weapons. If you watch the move "Lord of War" which is based on a real-life Russian weapons trader you'll see he sells Mi-24 Hind's and T-80 tanks. But no, our pathetic weapon traders can't even get a better sniper gun than a WWI bolt action with a terrible scope and are forced to use a gun that in the Russian Army is only used by cerimonial guards (SKS).

That said, the BRMD should be much more powerful, even if it only has iron sights there should be something, and you should also be able to load both AP and HE shells in the gun (its a 14.5mm BTW). Used correctly it has potential to be quite the fire support vehicle, but the main gun is so nerfed that you can't kill infantry unless you directly hit them and it takes days to kill a Warrior (I think I reloaded like 4 or 5 times to get it to smoke).

I'm pretty sure in RL the Warrior is supposed to be armored against 14.5mm rounds, so its fairly realsitic that it takes a long time to pound through the armor. It should definetly have explosive rounds/splash damage vs infantry though, right now its barely worth the hair-raising experience of attempting to get it to the combat areas.

Bit of an increase in the armor would be nice too.

Yes, I hope the BRDM will get some TLC, as the Russians will be using it as their light scout vehicle.

You beat me to it :) I was thinking exactly the same thing. Kinda weird that weapon dealers are using WW2 weapons

Well tie me up, poke me with a hot brand, and call me Cow, I looked it up and sure enough... must make for a heavy track to carry that much armor in an APC. I wonder how it would hold up against .50cal SLAP, which cuts through an M113 like butter. At any rate, stock 14.5mm AP won't wipe it out. BTW, 14.5 has twice the energy of a normal .50cal, that's a lot of bullet to stop.

LMAO Bob, so true, so freaking true... I was very surprised recently when I learned that you could be shot through the front windows... you'd figure in combat the driver would be smart enought to button up...

Yes, the BRDM-2/BTR-60PB turret does have a 2.6x fixed magnification day sight for the gunner. The BRDM-2 model and code is from USI, I believe, and was placed into the game as-is. I'm sure we can get it fixed, but not sure how fast.

Sources say the most common load for the BRDM-2/BTR-60PB 14.5mm KPV-T is the API (armor piercing incendiary) round. The ammunition is carried in 50 rd boxes, which is the amount of ready rounds that the KPV-T can accept. I'm not sure if there are belts produced with a pre-determined mix of ammunition, or if there exists SOP for how many boxes of API vs. HEI.

Anyways, as I said before, will see about getting the gunner's sight fixed.

Indeed you are right...

From the MOD website

"Survivability
The armour of WR is designed to withstand an explosion from a 155mm shell at 10 m and direct fire from machine guns up to a caliber of 14.5 mm."

BRDM:

"The BRDM-2 series, with maximum armor of 14 mm, can be penetrated by artillery fragments and .50 caliber machine gun fire. Its tires are not protected by armor and are particularly vulnerable to puncture from fire of all kinds."

-- I would say that it's about right at the moment in PR.

I think, the Milita can request Pilot kits beside Crewman or so it was said. So something is coming with wings or rotors for the Milita in the future ;)

True, but one would expect the arms dealers of mestia to have slgihtly more up-to-date weapons than they have at present.

Also, theres no gaurentee that what will be flyable will be cool. It'll probubly be an Mi-1 or something equally silly.

Bell 47 suits quite nice for a Militia LB, but what about any transport/attack chopeprs?

Old Hinds?
