Simple method to increase vehicle survivability

first off, i'd like to start off with a statement i think most of us can agree with.

when the alarm goes off in your plane, helo, or tank (not as often) you turn back.

but often times the alarm is too late. when it goes off chances are you won't make it back to base. not because you can't move your rudder, or swivel your turret to kill an AT soldier, but because your vehicle is singing it's death song.

I think that if the alarm threshold was lowered just a little, so that it sounds when you are approaching the point of no return (engine fire) you will turn back or make an emergency landing and let your 7 passengers out so they are not a liability on the flight home with no rudder.

since PR has no damage meter, and most real vehicles have warning lights/alarms that activate when something bad happens, i think vehicle crews should be able to hear the grim reaper ring the doorbell instead of hearing him raise his sythe.
thanks!

I Agree, this would be fun and would alert pilots to how much damage theve sustained

I dont use aircraft myself, but wouldnt you be able to see the smoke/fire with free look?

Not usually, since you can't look back far enough.

As Bob would have said: I endorse this event or product.

Yup, seems fair enough to me if it's possible, would be nice if there was "You might wanna give your armour a little love" and "Get the %^&*k out your tank!" noises so you can differentiate when you need to be cautious and when you need to plain and simple move yo *** outta there.

Is the whole alarm thing something you get on real life tanks and such?

I really like this idea but it would put to an end one of my favorite things to do, well i dont do it. I love it when im flying a helo and we get hit real bad and the thing is about to blow or i loose control and me being the pilot, jumps out to watch everyone in that bird crash and burn or jump only to fall to their death. LOL :) its evil but funny.

i think this is a good idea, and yes, as far as i know helis (and tanks?) have damage alarms for critical failures

Sounds like a great idea (and very realistic).

An aircraft has a panel of warning lights for all kinds of damage, including an FACK indicator that tells you about even a minor system glitch. Armored vehicles on the other hand are just like a big car, with minimal "dash lights" to show if there is a serious failure.

Aircraft have hundreds more systems involved in keeping them airborne, while ground units are much less complex. But if you are in a tank and the damn thing is hit hard, you will know it. Crewmen will likely be beat to hell or killed inside, the vehicle might not move well or you will have smoke coming in. You can just feel the difference, not to mention you will probably see sunlight from somewhere you shouldn't.

Either way, I think the current warning is way to weak. It would be nice if there was a way to make two seperate tones, but I don't think so. That means making the sound just play at a more delayed point in damage, such as at 20% instead of 10% or whatever it is at now. Just before the "flambe" level of damage.

But the thing is, we cant forget that we still have the ''puffed out'' sounds (meaning, there not as loud as they should be). So you can hear hits, we just need to fix the soundElse than that i COMPLETELY AGRee with the idea.

Yeah two things with vehicles - #1 knowing if your hit needs to be a little easier...

and #2 on this thread the warning sounds - like in ArmA when your chopper/jet is hit you get a warning sound when armor is being taken away from the vehicle - some system similar to this ( NOT LOCKON WARNING )

Basically a warning lock-on not for being locked on, but rather for being at critical damage... imo... and taking *major* damage ( not small arms in helos perhaps? )
