thebattlearena.com- why always crashing?

Post by Shafty »

I have been off of PR since the new version, but I am back on again because of a new server called thebattlearena.com A good US server
The only problem is that it crashes every 30 minutes....anyone else play here and do we know who admin is?

(there are really not many US servers left....I don't want to flame any other server, but the same damn maps since a year ago gets extremely boring.) WE must have more city maps, not these huge tank and airplane maps. Thats why I left vanilla in the first place.

The new maps are just boring and run like ****. IMHO

Lets get a map pack out for urban warfare and then get servers to play the damn things.

Then make a ton of good city maps, if you can...

As for the thebattlearena.com crashing, yeah, pretty annoying. Could be due PR, since the patch isn't out yet and a lot of players and servers have various problems.

Battlearena

He is the owner/admin. Also SgtPrincess his wife is an admin. I know them been having some problems and think they are going to upgrade the hardware.

Yea, it has the squad bug frequently and crashes and there are usually bigots galore. Other than that it's a good server. lol

The uber 1337 sniper ryan plays there all the time, hence why i stopped going to that server alone...

Battlearena4 and SgtPrincess are the owners.

The server started acting up a few weeks ago for an unknown reason, and they're in the process of trying to upgrade the hardware (as colfax said)

There are loads of city maps, and they broadly play the same. I'd prefer maps with several different environments, where all the different arms have their place. Some built up areas, some open areas that allow for armoured combat, woods where vehciles are less effective and proper infantry support is needed etc. If i wanted to play samll town based maps with inf only i'd play counter-strike or something similar.

I'm sure that maps that appeal to serveral playing preferences at the same time are possible. I'm reserving judgement on maps such as kashan that contain planes until the AA has had its overhaul.

Well, Al Basrah is a bit like that. Outside the city, the Brits rule, especially when they're using Warriors. Inside, they'd better hurry before they're overwhelmed.

I wish I could design a map without losing interest or the mod fooking it up...last map I made, was a lag fest for some reason :(

Unfortunatly the squad bug plagues this server quite a bit, i wish they would make some sort of script to reboot the server once a day or something.

When the squad bug appears it REALLY CRIPPLES PR gameplay, ie no officers or crewman kits etc etc etc.

Exactly, that is why PR is around. It is mostly infantry centered, but they are trying to get away from the generic city maps that play the same like Karkand and Shaqi were.

What happened to the good maps that have all around play like Qwai River, Jabal, Kyongan Ni, Kashaan, Ghost Train, etc.

Too much Basrah, not matter how good it is, and other city maps get old after a while because it allows everyone to find the best spots or technique to them and exploit them everytime.

I don't think it is a "server" problem anymore. There are various installs and software loads I've tried and it just keeps on having odd problems.

I did not have this many problems when running any of the tournament maps or any conquest maps at all for that matter.

For the record, battlearena.com game server runs on a quad processor opteron with 4 gigs of ram so it shouldn't have resource problems really. Battlerecorder, BF2CC auto admin, and all sorts of stuff have been set to various settings with no real resolution. Sometimes it just crashes.

I'm not the happiest with the location of the server so it will be moving at months end.

If you really like the server and want to help out, PM me at http://www.thebattlearena.com and we can arrange donations for hardware upgrades & bandwidth costs. Not panhandling, I've just been getting that question alot.

..

I thought quadcore wasnt very good for gaming and 4gig of ram? is it a windows server? i also thought 32bit windows had problems with anything over 3gig? could be wrong, i often am.
