How realistic is the Anti Tank class?

Is it really realistic to for the AT class to only have a pistol and AT weapon? I can't imagine the military would send someone into an extreme hostile situation with only a pistol to use against the enemy soldiers a few AT rockets.
I like to play as anti tank class but its just not worth it because once you've used up all your AT ammo the pistol doesn't keep you alive for long. Don't say pick up an enemy weapon because this is a realism mod, soldiers aren't expected to do that.

short answer is yes
theres two types of at guys who are dedicated AT, and an rifleman who carries a smaller AT weapon (ie AT4 or LAW)
a dedicated AT guy who carries a Javelin SMAW or anything that can be reused one carries the launcher and a few rounds and a pistol

US military carries AT4 disposable launchers as part of a system to take out enemy armor.
attached to a platoon would be a mobile AT-squad (if armor is thought to be in the area) they would be the ones with the tow or the smaw, and although they would probably be issued m4s (anyone confirm this?) while engaging armor they would most certainly not have their rifle on them (freedom/quickness of movement of AT equipment would be their #1 objective)

i dont think infantry carry TOW's
itd be Javelins or SMAW's, the AT4 is not the weapon of a dedicated AT man there light weigh one shot disposable things carried incase a light infantry squad needs them for armor/bunkers

yes beckwith i didnt mean to say AT4 was main weapon against enemy armor, i meant AT4 was used in circumstances when squad comes up against *light* armor.
there is an AT attachment that has smaw and (sorry i didnt mean tow either) javelin. however i dont think the AT attachement would be using a rifle while they had the AT equipment.
either way, this is no proof, we need first hand intel OR a video to prove this.
either way i think the RPG7 needs to be added to MEC.

Just stick with other people who are using assault rifles and make sure they cover you. They need you as much as you need them, as if they run into a tank they're pretty screwed unless someone just happens to be flying by in a Cobra or something.

Is that a joke? If you ever come across anyone who can work as a team and actually support the AT class soldiers then please let me know.
I fail to see how a soldier can be sent in to battle without some sort of defensive weapon other than a pistol. At class in BF2 is pretty much suicide once you've used up your AT ammo since nobody is going to support you and even if they do you're not much use with only a pistol.

yes i agree the anti-tank seems to be very balanced and fun now!
like in real life if he just meanders out on his own, of course hes gonna be outmatched because hes not properly equiped to take out small arms threat. prety much there is no effective way to solo with the anti tank class, and i think that is great!

I spent all night playing, every attempt I made to work as a team failed (although the enemy force appeared to work well together!). Sometimes I found one or two guys who would work together but it doesn't last long. I'm still convinced teamwork only works with clans, I hope PR will force teamwork in the future but for now people just don't get it.

That's a shame SC, I often play AT within a squad and can usually rely on my squad mates to keep me topped up with ammo and alive if I stick with them and hang back till I'm needed. I might have to be a pussy alot of the time but the rest of the boys in the squad are damned happy I'm there when a tank or APC rolls in!
I'll keep an eye out for you in game.

I see that all the time, especially in PRMM. Of course its not REAL teamwork per say, but if a tank rolls in people have a tendency to look for the nearest AT soldier and stick with him until the tank is gone.

This poor Marine was only issued a roll of duct-tape as a sidearm! (Just kidding, it may be on his left hip).

[R-DEV]Eddie Baker in any of those shots they could have a weapon other than the At weapon by their side, they don't actually show anything in detail. Plus their AT weapon is actually in use at the time so any other weapon may not be in full view.
For the sake of the game the At class should get something more than a underpowered short range pee shooter. You don't send the medic in with only a pistol + medikit, You don't send the engineer in with only a pistol + spanner and You don't send the spec opps in with only a pistol + c4 so why send the Anti Tank class in with pistol + AT? If anything they're usless to the squad once all the At weapon has been used up.

If they only get a pistol in real life, then so be it.
