Multi-Day Campaigns

Anyone remember back in the days of BF1942 where maps would often have Day 1, Day 2 and even Day 3s. almost like giving a map a storyline. A map that is divided up into several parts can really bring out the most in a map.

now to demonstrate how something like this would work, i bring you basrah int. airport. a 3-part scenario map.

Day 1
UK vs. MEC
British paratroopers drop into multiple areas around basrah int. airport in the dead of night. both sides are equipped with NVGs and the MEC has light armor and other vehicles. the british must infiltrate the airport and the area around it. lastly the british must destroy the MEC operating center on the southeastern corner of the airport.

Day 2
UK vs. INSG
during the night, 3 C-130s landed at basrah int. bringing light vehicles, APCs, engineers, and royal marines. the engineers worked furiously during the night to fortify the airport, and prepare a Vehicle check point around a gas station.
throughout the morning engineers took RPG and small arms fire from the fields and small village.
the royal marines, equipped with landrovers and warrior IFVs must patrol the area around the airport and destroy all weapon caches before they sustain any more losses.

The insurgents must defend their caches whilest initiating small skirmishes inside the airport and must ultimately eliminate the fuel depot on the northwestern end to slow british reinforcements.

Day 3
UK vs. INSG
A C-130 carrying a high ranking british commander was shot down by Insurgents as it was banking to make another attempt towards the runway.

Local insurgents in the farm area have rushed to secure the crash site. others took up defensive positions in the mosque and bombed out villige that was destroyed by several cruise missiles that were intended for the MEC command outpost. while other insurgents attacked the VCP to slow down recovery teams.

The british must escort the commanders landrover out of the twisted metal carcass of the C-130 and back to the airports safe zone. without losing control of the VCP.

not so much a suggestion for this map in particular, but anything that can give a map an in-depth story or something.
thanks!

I think thats a great idea. I would love to see that in the game and the map concept you made looks like a descent map I would definitely love to play on that map.

I see with each day you are changing the map statics / terrain a little in each. This would cost alot of mb space cloning each map and then editing it a little, its really just not worth the extra mbs it will shuve onto the download when u keep in mind its around 80mbs per map on average.

Would there be some way to 'link' them so say if the airport doesn't change for all 3 days that say day 2&3 use the files from #1?

from all my basic testing ive done, no.... aint found any way to load stuff from other maps...

the only effective way to do diffrent "days" is to use the 16, 32 and 64 layers or you could go about cloning the game modes, giving them new names and calling them day 2 etc but then u could not change the terrain / statics still.

A sense of continuity is always found in the best games.

This could be introduced in the form of map packs, maybe?

Nice thinking...................and would it be possible if lets say in day 1 the UK forces win, the game loads map day 2 uk win , but if they lose then instead the day 2 uk win the game loads day 2 uk loses which changes some storyline ??? is it possible with coding ???

The only method would be to edit the Map Loadout.. but thats for servers that want to do that

I think a map pack would be the best option for this suggestion. since the size would be so big, people interested in serious maps with a story instead of just instant-action. would download the map pack.
this would also result in less noobs/smacktards as well as a wonderful bonus for tournaments.

also keep in mind, the multi day campaigns don't have to be kashan-sized, it could just be a map the size of helmand , in fact helmand itself could be one

helmand province day 1
brits move into village, accompanied by light armor and landrovers. insurgents harass the british forces as they make their way into the village.

helmand province day 2
british forces spent the night digging into the village, it is fortified with trenches, sandbag emplacements and stationary MGs at dawn the first skirmishes broke out around the perimeter of the village. British forces must defend the improvised command center in the center of the village until the 7th armored brigade arrives accompanied with challenger IIs and warrior IFVs.

or something like that, helmand might need a bigger village to make it more defensible but a "seize and defend" map config is what i'm looking forward to.

map pack = bad idea as people will crash with no warnings if they do not have the map, which will mean they think the mod is **** for crashing and will spam it on here.

Wouldn't it show up as red for them?

If a map pack is released, couldn't you just edit that message that comes up whenever you start the game instead of the Highway Tampa released message? This has been talked about having a "Read the manual" here thing. So maybe have a "Get the new map pack here"

I agree it would be many mbs.

And changing the night and day and statics will have to change the whole map.
Btw does using the .desc for day 1 allow you to change the statics and sky for day 2?
