if u've ever seen a real fire fight or small explosion, u will notice there is alot of dust and smoke being raised. this would really add to the feeling of being in a battle if it were added to the game.

If u want an example look for the war video clips on ogrish.com and watch all the dust and smoke.

yeah i saw that thread, but im talking about more dust and smoke in general. not just muzzle flash and bullet smoke. when something gets blown up there will be a smoke cloud around it for a while; a black billowing smoke cloud, and dust dispersing everywhere. ya know what i mean? check out ogrish.com and look at some of the explosions.

i know it would cut down some peoples fps, but i think more ram would solve that problem.

Depends on where you are fighting. Maybe Strike at Karkland or something with the burnt out vehicles and such, but having it on all the maps wouldnt be good. Some of the more open maps such as Gulf of Oman and some of the Chinese maps it wouldnt look right.

im prety sure the more smoke you add has DIRECT affect on the amount of lag created...

that is the only thing holding them back i think.

i think EVERYONE would agree, more smoke and generally more DESTRUCTIVENESSS in the battlefield would be a great thing. but i think the bf2 engine is limited in what it can do smoke wise.

Has anyone seen call of duty 2 smoke??? NOW THAT IS THE SHIT!

Adding realistic smoke goes against the BF2 grain, and requires heavy modding to do.

This is because

A The 'smoke' in bf2 is thought to be the 'fog.' Tottaly revamping this system would take time

B The actual smoke effects in BF2 are incredibly poorly done. while they may look good, they are extremely dense, and drop fps by 10 -20 when you look at them. Smoke nades oughta be renamed 'lag nades'.

It'd take a long while to mod and fix this, but im sure its on the agenda somewher.

yeah, especially if you are in a field or something when you shoot it, have a cloud of dust come out around the tank, maybe a light dust stream from the low preasure area following the round as it leaves the barrel
