Little Bird issues

The Little bird seems a little off. I watched it flying on its nose in circles, mowing people down. The radius of the circle was about 10m. This was nose pointed almost straight down.

And its armor seems too strong. Several times I scored 2-3 hits on it with the apc main gun, and it just started smoking a little. It shouldn't survive to much rifle fire let alone 3 hits from an apc?

Actually it's called a Little Bird,
The slightly angry tone aside, I agree with your point. The LB is, and has been, a sort of mini tank that can take a lot of damage.
I mean you can turn it upside down on the ground, stay in the cockpit and flip it right way up again and fly off... Takes a bit of luck and practice but I've done it several times myself after I goofed on a landing or even a take off.

But over all and for gameplay reasons some compromises has to be made. Maybe the Bird will receive a few tweaks for the 07 release?

No, but you, if that was you in the video, never took any hits, just showing off those mad helo Pilot skillz by flying .025 inches of the tarmac in the narrow streets of Muttrah. ;)

So the original post is still valid, aside from the slightly disrespectful way it's posted.

I personally like to zoom about Muttrah myself in 06, hosing the streets and taking out the AA guns so the Blackhawks has a realatively safer airspace.
Have to admit though, I smear myself and the pretty LB all over the walls of the buildings there a little too often... :o ops:

Actually, I have found the LB to be really vulnerable. A couple of days ago, on Qwai River, we were dealing with a spawn-camper (who I later flattened with the transport LB, but that's something else ;) ), and he managed to take it down with nothing but small arms fire, though I did sometimes have trouble taking down LBs on Kyongyan'ni with the PLA AA, that was because their pilots were good enough to make a quick getaway.

Wrap-up: unless the LB has a really good pilot, it will go down after not too much punishment, which is the way it should be. And even if it doesn't go down, you'll probably take out the passengers, and if you're lucky, the pilot.

all of our choppers need alot of work to make them realistic, at the moment they dont handel at all well.

Ahh memories of my first ever PR game, random burst from the RIB LMG followed by a LB falling gracelessly to the ground, minus pilot. Never managed it since...

for the apc main gun, i prefer trying to switch to HE rather than the ap ammo against little birds, quicker to kill the pilot

and for them being to tought, ive seen one taken out by lucky shots with a pistol against the pilot :p

The community will always find a way to use 'em.
In the wise words of Dr. Ian Malcolm, in Jurassic Park, Life will find a way.

EDIT:....Is it me or are my post at the VERY TOP of the thread?!?!

Mongol, your posts just beat up the other ones and take top spot. But no, it's the lowest one to me. Maybe one of the forum settings acting up?

Yea mongol, check your display settings in your personal Control panel. I think you have more options there on how to display the threads...
Don't ask me how it got fubared in the first place though... C'est la Vie I guess.

Never understood the Litte bird and blackhwak miniguns.. Aren’t they supposed to be badass sprayers of deadly lead? Why is it then so damn tricky to hit anything in PR.. Somteimes I see my tracers dance over a soldier lying down on the street... Yet no kill.. He just runs away for cover.. I know other players got the same issues since I sometimes found myself in that same spot and stood up without a scratch.. I think miniguns need a bit more "spread-cone" so we don't get more Pulp Fiction divine intervention situations..

As to the weak Little Bird armor, it's fine as it is. Don't change it...

Once i managed to smoke a LB with one mag 30 rounds, with a chinese rifle(was playing as medic)

Though the LB was within 20 meters he was flying fast so u can assume i only managed to hit it with %66 rate ,in other words i dont think they are anywhere near a flying tank.

Maybe the APC rounds are somehow bugged...

God hates miniguns. He will save anyone who is under attack from them.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean any disrespect, and was a little angry as I posted right after getting offline.

I never had problems with the little bird before....just last night it was impossible to take down. I seriously put 3 or more rounds on it with the Chinese APC and it hardly phased it. This was on several different occasions. And there were several times were my whole squad was shooting at it with small arms for minutes at a time while it was circling, and it did nothing.

Is it possibly a hack? It was on the tactical gamers server...i wouldn't think so, and I'm normally not one to complain. If someone wants from TG wants to pm me, I have a screenshot of the guys score...don't want to accuse anyone unjustly.

Love the mod otherwise devs, keep up the good work!

Sometimes servers won't register hits especially with moving targets.. Your computer(client) confirms a hit on your screen (as a blood-puff/metal flakes falling off) but nothing happens. This can happen even if your ping is very low.. BF2 engine problem.. nothing can be really done about it.

Its more likely not hitting then it actually surviving any amount of fire. Compare your ping to the pilots, you may need to aim ahead of the model, etc

The helis in 0.6 are incredibly weakened compared to previous versions, I thought it was a mistake or bug at first but thats how it is now.

The Apache will go down in 5 seconds or less when fired on by the 50 cal, it'll take a rocket and live still but anything like 50 cal or apc gun is totally lethal

Thats even more true of the other helis, the littlebird has a open cockpit so you can down it with one burst of a rifle in theory.

I dont think it needs adjusting myself especially when the bullets hitting the heli are silent, the co pilot might hear something but the only clue a pilot will have that death is imminent is the tracers flying past
