Supply Drop speed

I think the current speed of descent is highly unrealistic and should be increased. These things come down like feathers rather than loaded crates or vehicles. It's becoming a real problem since these drops serve to function as a great big arrow to your current AO.

It represents the time it takes the plane carrying the supplies to prep, take off and fly to the DZ to drop the supplies. In real life you don't ask for a supply drop then have it in your lap 25 seconds later.

I think he was saying about supply/vehicle parachute drop speed

Bob's answer still stands. AFAIK you don't have endless cargo planes circling a battlefield waiting for someone to need supplies...
The long drop time simulates prep and arrival times.

Current speed is fine, IMO; you just have to time it right.

Right. The point is that in reality your supplies won't be getting destroyed by tanks a few miles away. Just increase the recharge time on Supply Drops to represent travel time.

I would like to see the supply drops being carried out by real vehicles.
This is an idea we had for a long time now... choppers and trucks "spitting" out a supply crate or ammo dump.

There they go again putting faith in players....lol
Seriously though I personally like that idea immensely, however, how many times will someone have to ask for a supply drop before they get it or not get it at all....or....how many people will simply get the supply vehicle offed before they can deliver the supplies. Is this a feature that will be at least somewhat idiot proof? If not, I can smell trouble. Morons will be out there doing combat maneuvers with the supply vehicles or simply using them as taxis.

That sounds like a good idea, Nations At War has this. It was just a regular heavy jeep with a supply box in the back and only holds two people, driver and gunner. The supply box speed is kinda bad, like on Kashan, if a squad leader calls for a supply drop in the middle of the bunkers, the tanks just keep firing at it until they get destroyed... Oh well.

I would love to be the chopper pilot for the supply drops, but beef up transport chopper armor against 50 cals or make them more inaccurate at range, they seem too effective against choppers right now.

Is that not better suited for the supply timer? Adjust that but give the actual supplies a realistic drop rate. With the new view distances getting supplies down safely without displaying your position for the 2 minutes it takes to land is ludicrous.

I'm afraid this might be hardcoded, but what about supply drop being invincible/levitating in the air for about 1,5 minutes after request and then dropping down in realistic speed ?

How about a Super stallion whit a supply crate insite wich will be parachuted when the player open the back just like with the hatch on the merlin, and then i can fly back and reffil?or just let him push a button and then it suddenly appears at the back of the chopper(a lot easyer)

what about when you order supplys( or hot chips) you get more then one supply crate like multable ones evenly spead over a lond distance that way enemy does not know your exact location. And you have others incase one is destroyed. this for sure is not hard coded.

It's also in forgotten hope on bf1942. Supplies should be delivered by vehicles or plains. Move the drop delay to supplies reload time instead. Now COM can drop supplies every coupple of minutes, but it takes ages to get down. Plus hardly any SL requests the supplies where his future location is going to be. Now they stand still and whine about the drop time.
