Looking around as infantry, while moving forward

Can this be done? This would really add to the immersion factor and to soldier's situational awareness. Basically give foot units the ability to press control and look around, like in a jet or transport vehicle.

Can't we kind of do this already by using a combination of different movement keys and the mouse? Eg. to look left while moving forward - face to the left and strafe to the right.

Looking around is just as easy, but I think binoc's would cover this problem.

Yea but, I mean, move your head around only, and not the rest of ur body. For example, in game, you would press control and look around withing dragging ur body with ur head (and ur gun). Imagine a soldier running to cover and looking at enemy forces advancing from his left side; he would take a look at them without having to shift his whole body towards them.

yea i think we can already do that mort- i strafe

As said, we can already do this by turning and strafing. So why would we need another way of doing it?

He's talking about something similar to when you're in a Jet or a Helicopter. Where you can press a button and use the mouse to look around without having to turn the whole aircraft to see something.

I think that would be cool. Not entirely sure if that is possible because I think the coding for that is localized to vehicles only. Would be worth a look in the coding though.

The other way is more realistic ;)

Being able to look without moving is actually a pretty big part of the battlefield. If a guy stays prone and dont move, you can easily miss him. But as soon as he moves, he's detected as there are a ton of pixels moving around. But why should he have to move his entire body just to look a little on either side? Totally unrealistic.

I really doubt its possible to implement though.

Thats not what he's talking about. What he's saying is we should have the ability to stand still, not move anything other than our head...strafing doesn't come in to it. Like when you're in a helicopter/airplane and press a button to look about.

I support this idea.

Yup the ability to look about without the need to move the whole body would be much better, but I doubt this has been built in to the game

Do you mean something like this? Yet again OFP is streets ahead of BF2 in features. Note my use of overly dramatic music!

The Vid thingy: http://www.silent-thunder.co.uk/Free%20 ... %20OFP.rar

Oh and someone linked me to this! It's great hahha!

Hehe, I was just going to mention OFP.
But, yes, this should be a "must" feature. I don't think it should be hard to implement if its already in the code for vehicles/aircrafts.

This is kind of a relative, but I would also like to see a prone feature like in COD. When prone you can only move about 45 degrees quickly. If you want to move more right or left, your body has to adjust. You can't magically spin you body around when prone.

Because it looks stupid to strafe at running speed. No one would ever do that in real life. What I'm proposing is realistic and simulates how a soldier looks around in real life.

And yea thx for explaining it guys. And RG is right, this doesn't seem impossible, it's there for vehicles, why not apply it to a foot soldier? Be optimistic :)

A soldier is different than a vehicle... Anyway, I did a quick test with it for fun. Didnt work though. I never really got into digging why (it just locked the screen instead of doing a mouselook). I'm sure the PR devs will be more than happy to endure the pain of figuring it out ;)

Btw, BF2 obviously doesnt (and 99% likely never will) support mouselook like OFP... It would be limited to very narrow angles. There are no arms or anything behind the rifle, like in OFP. External and internal models are two completely different things. I dont think that problem can be bypassed, it would be nice to see though.

I don't think you can do this... unless you figure out some way to turn the soldier into a vehicle....

So far not much beyond tweaking sounds and health can be done with this mod :(

i remember reading about the refractor engine for bf1942.... basically its a flight simulator engine, and everything is condsidered a vehicle, especially the infantry unit. im sure bf2 is similar in thta aspect.

Ahhhh! Now I get what you mean. Sorry, my mistake.

Yes, that would be a brilliant feature and I would love to see something like that incorporated into the mod.

Nope..That would be interesting though. And if that were the case, we could add a PCO to a player and people could give eachother piggy back rides!

Any way to impliment a lean option where when you come to a corner you can lean left or right to see around the corner w/o making yourself 100% open to fire? That would be cool. As with the turining your head, when a soldier turns to look, he is trained to have his gun do the same. So when you turn and strafe it is realistic.

Lol, congrats on bringing a large smile to my face. it's amazing what overly dramatic music can accomplish!
You will need to speak to one of our coders about the possibility of doing this, as I am not one of those superman like coders that have an ability to do almost anything.
