Crewserved weapons

First of all; Did a quick search and didn't find anything about this topic, however if there is one and I missed it, please close this.

My idea was about being able to use mountable weapons in PRMM. .50's and Mk19's for example, or even MAG's/M60's on tripod mounts. Basically, it would work like this;

Guy 1: Carries the tripod.
Guy 2: Carries the weapon/recoildampener. (Differs on different weaponsystems.)
Guy 3 carries ammo/barrels.

Guy 1 places the tripod on the ground where he wants the weapon at, Guy 2 then mounts up the weapon on the tripod. Guy 3 loads barrels and ammo. Then somebody can use the weapon, which would need to be resupplied at a later state.

The process can be simplified by making so it only takes 2 guys for the entire procedure; Guy 1 carries weapon and barrels, Guy 2 carries ammo and tripod. Of course, the weapon when mounted would be rather slow to turn around, and would mostly work as a fixed fire-support position. Would be rather cool in-game, if your squad comes under fire from a fixed firing pos, and you'd have to flank it. (Good luck charging a firing .50)

Perhaps having a guy next to you, with a pair of binocs to lead in the fire, report new contacts, and resupply you.

When carrying the parts, the soldiers wouldn't be able to sprint. (I've tried sprinting with a dismounted .50 cal on my back. Wasn't that fun.)

The problems as I see it;

1) If it can't be done with this engine. I've done a fair share of modding for OFP myself, and the *worst* thing I know is when people wants us to do stuff that's impossible with the current engine. Feel free to kick me in the nuts if that's the case. :mrgreen:

2) The usefulness of the mounted weapons. BF2 is a rather fast-paced urban combat game, stationary .50's and Mk19's would more likely to be used by Infantry/Mechanized "in the woods". Also, given the normal engagement distance on the weapons, they would be difficult to justify on many maps other than the larger more open ones. (Zatar Wetlands, Dragon Valley etc).
Imagine a Mk19 mounted on Strike At Karkand. (As if the level wasn't a slaughterhouse already....)

3) I'm being a pain-in-the-rear-region for suggesting such a feature that would be a real pain to code. :roll:

That's about it for now. And a big thank you to the people that actually read through it all.

Yeah, two would be alot more economical. Kinda hard to keep 3 people on the same page int he heat of combat.

Plus even if you have, say, 20 players on each side a three man team is quite a large portion of that.

I know this is offtopic, but I want to thank you for the great job you, and the other developers did on Swedish Forces Pack, Shar.

I dont think you can attach something to something else ingame... I mean an engineer could easily deploy a tripod, but a machinegunner couldnt attach an M2 on it.

The only feasable method I see is having one guy deploy the entire weapon and a second guy that bring the actual ammunition for it, but anyone of them can enter it. So an engineer can deploy/pickup a complete tripod .50, but a support guy will constantly have to stick with him to supply it with new ammo.

Either way, I love the idea. I suggested it in the early days of BF1942, but no modders picked it up I think.

That would work. Wouldnt be 100% real but would be as close as it would get. Good Idea
