Blowing wire.

Had an idea last night on Kashan Desert at the big fortess. Blow the wire and climb over the breach.
Nope. Grenade a no-go.
Honestly, we did not try C4. But a grenade IRL should have been enough, if not a SLAM.

I have tried w/ C4 and it doesn't take the wire out.
It would change the dynamics of the battle considerably if you could breach the wall at any point.

i saw on future weapons (yea yea what ever i know) that the only way (or most effective) was to blow razor wire is a bangalor (spelling?)

To quote Expendable Grunt's sig, quoting BetterDeadThanRed;
"I think blasting apart wire covered in razors is a bad plan to begin with."
Tho ingame, a grenade really SHOULD do it.

I would think that a grenade IRL would only damage one or two strands but would not blow the wire apart.

Yeah grenades aren't exactly high yield explosives.

What happens if you have a HE granade instead of a FRAG?

Or why not just a pair of wire cutters? Works the same as a wrench but takes down wire.

I like that simple solution

Indeed, use a pair of wire cutters.

Yup, wire cutters are the way but who would have them? Engineer/sapper is the obvious choice, but adding them would mean removing another piece of kit. What could be sacrificed from Engi to make space for the cutters?
I suppose C4 could be lost, or maybe mines taken out and given to the L/H-AT kits instead.

I reckon the wrench is the best way forward as much as I'd like to see a separate tool eventually.

I think it is possible to create wrench and cutter in the samo slot. It is the same like C4 on vBF2 (C4 and remote detonator under one button).
Example:
You choose a wrench from a list (when you have wrench in your hand => left click, you repair stuff), then you use right click and you are taking out the wire cutter (when you have wire cutter in your hand => left click you cut the wire). Generaly right click will cycle between wrench and wire cutter.
What do you think about that?

Give the wire cutters to the spec ops class. We want them to sneak around behind the lines to take down infrastructure don't we? It'd be a good fit.

I agree with this, but since SF is going to be requestable in 0.7, maybye give them to Rifleman or Officer

Hmm replacing the rifleman's ammo (and giving it to the requestable support only) with the cutters would work I think. But then with so many riflemen about, wire would become very useless. I think Ragni's idea, if possible would be the best fit. AFAIK shovel has no secondary fire mode at the moment, and if it's possible then that would be good.

Anyway cutters is great idea
And I think both Engi and Spec need those cutters

I politely disagree with the notion of breaches changing game balance. We can already make breaches via C4 and tanks. IRL this happens too, especially when the enemy has an aversion to frontal assaults.
A standard US frag grenade may be small, but a couple would certainly make a breach IRL. A SLAM or C4 could also be used ala Bangalore Torpedo. But that's more for a massive breach vs something a half-squad could slip through.
I like the idea of cutters a lot - as long as it can also repair a breach too. Nice thing is it's a lot quieter than explosives.
