Recoil.... is it really realistic???

Hi everyone.

OK, I have played PR since around version 0.3 and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I understand that the recoil in v0.3 was far too good, especially with the M4 which was just in a different league.

I stopped playing BF2/PR for a while and came back to I think v0.5 and I hated the new recoil, I found it very unrealistic (I will explain why below) and I found myself using my PISTOL for long-range shootouts!!! It was actually more accurate believe it or not.

Now I have come back to BF2 and was pleased to see yet another new patch for PR (well done guys) and I was hoping the recoil would be fixed, but sadly it hasn't.

Now I will explain why, please don't flame me and say I can't shoot, etc. I am just trying to explain that this would not happen in real life, unless you are chronically injured.

Here is screenshot one. I am now going to fire exactly 30 bullets in semi firing mode without touching my mouse to see where the gun ends up (You can do this yourself if you wish).

Now here is screenshot two, this is where the M4 ended after firing one clip without moving the mouse at all... Is this honestly what would happen in real life? I doubt it.

Now here is a video on Youtube of what I believe is a real M4A1 rifle, please correct me if I am wrong. I just want to show you what it would be like in real life. You can search for you're own M4 videos if you wish.

but the guy is compensating for the recoil by sitting down and with muscle tension , which u can replicate by pulling down on the mouse whistle shooting . if u think u should be able to fire accurately without any compensation from mouse movement , well then this might not be the mod for u.

and no what u have shown wouldn't happen in real life because of the weight of the gun , but by having that makes the player have to compensate for recoil , which is realistic , EVERY game has it.

and the recoil isnt perfect. but thats more the bf2 engine than the mod.

The point with recoil as it is currently is that it forces the player to adjust while firing; it adds a degree of skill into firing.

If you're firing a full clip out (such as in CQB), you can keep the weapon aimed by pulling downwards on the mouse as you fire; compensating for the recoil.

If you're firing single shots, you can make a small readjustment after each shot and put several rounds on a target very quickly, with some practice.

The point is that weapons in the game now are so accurate (as they should be) that if we lessened the recoil, there'd be nothing to give players an edge over each other - as there should be.

In short, the team aware that it's not a realistic interpretation of recoil but on the other hand, it's the best way of modelling recoil and allowing for user-error and user-skill.

There have been many topics about this already so I'm going to lock it, but thanks for posting a clearly written and illustrated example up. In future though when reporting concernes, a quick check of the forum using the "search" function should reveal if it's a problem we're aware of. Ta! :)
