Camera feeds on the battlefield

I searched but found only mind-numbing threads, so here goes;

I'm not suggesting this, I'm just curious if this is technically possible;
People have been talking about camera feeds in BF2. It's not possible to have a picture-in-picture view just like GRAW, we all know that.

Think of the attack chopper and the co-pilot shooting the missile and guiding it using the missile-chase-cam. Remember this.

Now imagine the following: the missile is an object you place ("shoot") somewhere on the battlefield. Its speed: 0 km/h.
You "enter the co-pilot seat" (trailer? some other deployable asset?), right-click and immediately see what the missile object sees.

Technically this should be possible, but I'm not sure if this is.... H-C :o

For what? Do you want to open a BF2 PR securitycamera shop?` :razz:

I don't think that it would be a major problem to make such a "cam" but on the other hand im not a DEV :sad:

Sounds possible, especially with your example. Thanks for providing an example by the way. :)

There should be cameras set up around the VCP walls so you can see INS hiding on the other side! :)

Kidding. But the whole camera idea would be pretty fun to toy with. You could give it its own camera view style/effects similar to the ones the chopper gunner has with maybe a blinking 'record' and red circle! :)

But yeah, youd need a DEV to say its really possible...

Then we could have combat cameramanz! You run out, deploy your camera (by example, a camera missile with speed of zero), and then you start filming through its lens :)

It could be used in an UAV!!! For exemple, a squad-leader is with his squad near a urban region. Then, he could call for UAV support and using a new tool he could look by the UAV abouve the region. The camera would be doing a circle movement and the vision angle is a little limited and could have a zoom.

How realistic is that? Doesn't sound too realistic to me really :o .

I suggested Commander placeable MUAV's like that that the CMDR would place then 'enter' from the Command Post and fly like a slow plane so he could feed info to his squad.

It was locked for a repost. Binsuggd apparently...

An MUAV would make more sense, since it's a short range, short flight thing which would fit PR better than a UAV, which would be runway-launched and much longer term.

Hmm, this would be quite cool actually, specially on maps like basra with insurgents. Although, the object in question would most likely have to be bound to a parent object. (Like missiles are with an apache.) which would be you would have to deploy it from inside the vehicle. I can't really see this working as a static deployment unless already deployed by a mapper. But for urban maps it would be fine as the cameras could have already been placed. 'Specially with insurgent type game modes.

Well, how about a LB with copilot seat, which has the same view and zoom as the attack chopper gun, only you can't shoot anything out of it, only use commo rose to spot and use the zoom to search manually.

definitely possible.
maybe just a really big vehicle with a small entry/exit point and a really far off viewport.
then you could change positions to "change cameras"

Geat idea.
A force economizer allowing a small force to hold VCP while most of the troops are off looking for the poppy fields.

That in my opinion would be a far more effective way of making cameras.

Looks like a similar setup to the titan guns in 2142, enter in one point and have your POV far away.

Just a thought... combine the "missile object" (faced down, so watching the ground below) with this UAV-thing. The CMDR can "shoot" the UAV and view the camera-feed provided by it. Of course no vanilla-radar would be on it.

I believe it's used in reallife, but I'm not sure if I want this on our battlefields.

maybe have the soflam left click deploy a uav over the crosshair at x altitude then have the camera point downward from that?
