Brit Transport

Searched for a similar thread but found none.

Will the Brits be given a transport similar to the Humvee or will they have to cope with the Land Rover? Just wondering about what you guys think about the subject?

the brits in r/l dont use any "heavy jeeps" as such, they mainly use land rovers. Thou the Saxon is like a heavy jeep, its more of an APC thou. Can find one on Op Ghost Train and some other maps :)

Yeah it'd not be bad to give them a amored transport vehicle except the Warrior

EDIT: OMG sorry i've forgot that the brits have a saxon ... :o ops:

maybe we could have a variant without a gun, maybe hold 4 guys in the back?

the humvee is in a class of it's own.
its in between recon style and heavy armored truck and apc.

the MRAP is more of like the saxon. the united states really does not have anything equivalent to a land rover unless you strip a humvee of all the armor plating which is now pretty much standard equipment.

The British Army is not modeled like the US Army. We have a lot of speedy vehicles and then we have a load of heavy armoured IFVs and such, the middle ground is the Mastiff PPV and the Saxon, although we are not limited to them.

If the PR Devs decide to add some Snatch LRs then the problem with fast transport vehicles will be solved.

More seats for the landie would go a long way. Hell, modeling a troop carrier variant (No 50 or Gimpy) would be handy.

It is what it is. Use it like you should.
The Landrover is very cool, if you should fix any put the stearingwheel on the other side :-D
Damn brits and their stubborn ways...

Right hand drive came from the days of chariot, so a chariot driver could slice someone on another chariot (or horse).

the LR is sweet, but they can only only half a squad, so there should be x1.75 more.

Øh... then take two! :-)
And who says a "squad" is 6 people? A 3-p patroling squad can do alot of good, you know.

yeah, but a 3p squad cant get a rally, and then its a pain in the arse waiting for transport and getting kits. and no Officer kit means no commander support.....

Unless of course you want to split the squad up all over the map? ;)

As said before, the most similar thing in UK service to the HMMWV family of vehicles is the Land Rover Defender / Wolf family of vehicles. The WMIK is used to transport heavier infantry weapons like the HMMWV armament carrier variants, but lacks the armor of the newer "clamshell" HMMWVs. The armored Land Rover variant, the Armored Patrol Vehicle or Snatch Wagon, is fully enclosed, but does not carry a weapons mount on top, just roof hatches that embarked infantry may fire from. So, there isn't anything exactly like the UA HMMWV weapons carrier in UK service, and there won't be in the mod.

The Mastiff Protected Patrol Vehicle (a variant of the Cougar 6x6 MRAP Category II in US service) is entering service as are armored trucks made by Pinzgauer. Will they replace both the Saxon and the Snatch? I don't think so, at least not completely.

And the FV432 APC has never left service and has received a substantial upgrade in its Mk3 Bulldog configuration.

As for seating in the WMIK, Gaz or another veteran would have to comment on that; I know the RSOV variant of the Land Rover in use by the 75th Ranger Regiment can seat at least 4 men in addition to the driver, commander and gunner, but though it is similar it might not be identical to the seating in the Wolf WMIK.

PS: Is the MoD naming new ground vehicles after dogs now? I guess they ran out of appropriate or cool words that started with S. :)

WMIK Wolf can seat 4 or 5 guys, although the 'official' setup is 4. Driver, commander (in the front), gunner then passenger in the rear. Although it's usually knocked down to 3 in a wagon due to kit/ammo/water/fuel space on long patrols. That's why you see kit hanging off them everywhere :D

Land Rover Snatch is the armoured version of the Land Rover family, although they are pants imo against the current threat and build techiques utilised in contructing IEDs, which is why the Army introduced MASTIFF etc.. Snatch were used heavily in Northern Ireland over the past number of years. Heavy and easy to roll.

The RV342 is now called the 'Bulldog', and are now being upgraded to include RWS systems (remote weapon systems).

We also got this little number. The SupaCat MWIMK is now being introduced in Afghanistan...

'Morgan[1CD wrote:;505460']So a landie with more seats in it would never happen?

I'll stick my neck out & say correct ;)

The LR Defender comes in 2 sizes, the 90 & 110 :

1. Defender 90 (swb) total seating 4, comprising of commander drive & 2 rear, usually used as mobile radio so 2 in rear 9 outta 10 times are signilers.

2. Defender 110 (lwb) total seating 6 (or 8 if not kit) comprising of commander, driver & 4 in rear, but goes the same as the wolf as discribed by Gaz

LR Wolf : as already stated by [R-DEV]Gaz

oooo oooo I've just thought, either of these could be added as the British troop carrier:

The Pinzgauer 716M Truck Utility Medium (Heavy Duty)(top 2 pictures in link) or Reynolds Broughton RB 44 Truck Utility Heavy (bottom picture in link)

http://www.army.mod.uk/equipment/muv/muv_tum.htm

both are usually used for towing field guns or for mech mortar teams, but both can seat 4 kitted in rear. Also RB44 has a capola on the cab so a GPMG can be fitted & I believe the 716M can be fitted with a wimik directly behind front seats like the Land Rovers
