A tipster sent us PDF document which looked like an outline of features for Battlefield 3. The three page document is apparently prepared for investors which should get it by December of this year. It details basic features of BF3, and are as listed:

Release in late 2008
Powered by "Frostbite DX"
Set in year modern day (just like BF2, ed.)
Will ship with 8 maps, each supporting up to 40-players per team
Two playable factions, NATO and MEC (Middle Eastern Coalition)
Same "ticket-based" gameplay style as before
Maps are mostly urban, based in Middle East
Squads and Commanders are present, introduced are "Battalions" which consist of three to four squads.
Five playable classes; Sniper, Assault, Engineer, Medic and Support
Will feature 48 different vehicles (24 for each faction)
Will feature 34 different weapons (17 for each faction) and another 22 unlocks (for both factions), in total 56 different weapons.
Other unlocks include different types of ammunition, body armor, helmets, camouflage and accessories.
Possible public beta in "Summer 2008″
Online stats tracking, awards and "real world ranks"
"Soldier" feature, looks like MMO-styled characters and avatars
Ranked servers will be available for resellers weeks before the game ships (for testing, apparently, ed.)
In-game replay and recording feature
VoIP, friends list, in-game IM-client and "extensive clan support"
Built-in auto software updater (no more patches!, ed.)
Widows Vista and OS X (no XP?!, ed.)
Announcement and teaser trailer in January 2008.
A map is mentioned by name, called "Baghdad Burning", and appears to be a massive urban map, similar to BF2's very popular "Strike at Karkand". The game is powered by 'Frotbite DX', currently the Frostbite engine is used in Battlefiled: Bad Company on PS3 and Xbox 360. The "DX" could refer to DirectX (10?), a PC version of the Frostbite engine.

Please note that none of this is confirmed, we've emailed a few people from EA and DICE (Battlefield developers) and will update the article as soon as we know more. Also note that we cannot, for obvious (legal) reasons, release the PDF document. Stay tuned for more info.

Bleh, saw this on tBF2.com, 50 bucks says that this going to turn out exactly like vBF2, but with better graphics and *shivers* Vista...

Not found but I'm not surprised. I'd take this with a grain of salt but the worst part about all this is that if it does come out, I'm going to buy it anyway. Damn it all!

It's vista because the game is going to be DX10 which only runs on vista. 40 players only. What a sad step backwards for the BF franchise. And nothing about Editing tools for mods and such. This is gonna be awesome.

one can oly wonder how its gona come out, but then agian we dont play vanila, i stoped playing vanila about one month after i got it, i just hope they relese mod tools before the relese. also wheres my XP support?

Eh, by now you should know what your getting with the battlefield franchise. Though I plan on watching the development, it could be fun.

sounds like player/squad customization might go through the roof. im liking the ammo and accessories i just hope they dont **** it up like cod4

At this point DX10 only works on vista. The game is DX10. Which means no xp support.

We all talk that PUUPUU but we all know that we are going to buy it the day it comes out.

Unless they've suddenly taken a more realistic view on "realism" its simply going to be BF2: Updated.

U wanna know something really funny? i,ve known BF3 was coming out 2 years ago. why? well on the Old Bf2 Website they had BF3 as a Link on there website it except it was never coded. Hehehe Interestin eh? I wish they still had it. I could have backed up this statement. But just to let u know This wont be a Shitty game, It will just be a game where PR will just Be the best mod on it again and Desert conflict will have to be called Desert Wars or something lol there gonna run out of names sooner or later and then FH3

I Know VISTA right now sucks but who knows maybe it will be good, But i would give vista 2-3 years untill it good enough to be acceptable for gamers, It was just like XP Except Xp was revolutionary. Vista However is just prettier and has DX10 and now the video cards right now cant support 10.1 LOL, Only the up coming 9000 series from NVIDIA and HD3000 Series from ATI will.

Interesting. I'm a little disappointed in the reduction of armies as well as the retaining of the fictional MEC. Bigger teams and updated VOIP sounds good, but if BF2 was not so hardcoded this could easily have been modded in. No mention on moddability and mention of even more unlocks makes Clypp a sad boy.

I imagine it will be pretty though. Destructible environments and the lot.

shit, i have vista... only i'm in a laptop and can't upgrade to DX10 because of my 7600 Go

i'll have to do something about that card once the geforce 900 series comes out i guess... and a new processor and more hardd rive space (one or two mroe gigs of RAM would be wonderful, too )

I'm sure it won't be Vista only...they would shoot them selfs in the foot if it were. They won't do that. They aren't Microsoft, it's all about profits for EA, alienating XP users = a lot of profit lost.
It sounds interesting, but it's going to use an already existing engine..so unless it's the engine used in Crysis...I'm not impressed. I bet you still won't be able to look around corners....
