A lot of middle eastern troops use this gun. I am of iranian background, and I was in iran this summer, and a lot of the national troops carry HKg3s, some looked newer, some looked older. I think arab countries use this gun as well. We already have the model for the G3 in bf2, why not give to the assualt class an option to use the AK-101 or G3.

Yes. But since this is PR, it would finally have the accuracy it should have, I hope
The G3 in regular BF2 is just an AK47 with a new model and 50% less ammo, bleh. You unlock a weapon only to get less than you started with.
Either way, more options would be nice. Personally I want a an assault class with the shotgun, smokers, flashbangs and body armor.

The MEC should carry AK74's as their primary weapon

The AK-74 (5.45mm) never really caught on much outside of Russia and the former Soviet Bloc/Warsaw Pact as their client states in the Middle East had so many AK-47s/AKMs in their inventory and many if not all were already producing them (and their ammunition) under license, so it didn't make much financial or logistical sense to make the switch.
As for the G3, it is a very popular and widely proliferated weapon; it was in the Iraqi inventory (not sure of quanity) as well as in Iranian service. Unfortunately H&K is discontinuing that family of weapons.
Small arms systems from many different exporters are found in Mid East inventories in enough quantity to be considered standard, not just Russian equipment.
