I searched on YouTube and found, that the HK 21 sounds different than in-game, the one in PR sounds like M60 and very 'heavy', while in the videos it sounds fast and 'light'

Hahahah, that's terrible! Should be shot fr that one.

The mics used on all those recordings sound like their pretty naff quality though, so I wouldn't pay too much attention to them. Well the 3rd one's kinda ok to be fair, but it's picking up far too much reverbyness to give an accurate portrayal of what it'd sound like 2 inches away from you.

(What's the proper word to use there by the way? Obviously "reverbyness" isn't the best way of articulating it)

its because of the higher rate of fire, which supposedly nothing can be done about.

TBH, i think all the gun sounds in PR should be revised. especially the sks.

Hehe, you guys do know that the sound of the HK21e is the same from BF2: Euro Forces, right? At least, I think they are the same, if not similiar. So, of course DICE did a crappy job for most, if not, all, weapon sounds.

AIX has some amazing sounds. Im not too sure how close to the real thing they are though.

The issue seems more like a ROF (rate of fire) problem than actual sound. I'm not sure if the current sound ingame simply doesn't match the HK21s ROF, or if the HK21e has a slower ROF ingame than it does IRL. If that's the case, then it should be revised to more realistic statistics.

heres the fire rate, as requested.

Code: Select all

ObjectTemplate.fire.roundsPerMinute 600

Would be cool if it had a higher rate of fire, but I think everything aside from the SKS sounds spot on. The SKS sound like its firing a much larger round than they do, IMO.

Then that pretty much proves it. The ROF ingame is slower than it is IRL. There lies the problem.

Yes, but the HK21 still sounds like "tomp tomp tomp" when it should be the "ratatata" sound :p

Watch as I completely derail your thread...

1. Your references come from videos, microphones on video cameras are intended to capture speech and ambiance. They are intended for daddy to film his babies first steps, or to watch him blow out his first birthday candles. NOT to capture the SPL that a gunshot produces. Or any sound as loud as that. I think plenty of lads who have shot weapons here will attest to the fact that what you hear on youtube is bollucks. Segue to point no.2....

2. Your references come from youtube videos. Poor sound quality. To quote sofad "high freq. cut plus high compression = bad reference". Did you even notice that the HK21 sounds different it all of them?

3. Youmont and Terranova make good points. The sound is from Euro Forces and we all know that making realistic gunshot sounds was the last thing on DICE's mind. It wasn't changed because we had bigger, better priorities. About the rof on the weapon. Point taken, will be 900rpm in the future.

In terms of the gunshots sounding ****, some indeed do. However sofad and myself are planning some recording sessions where we'll ensure we capture the most realistic sounds possible and make the audio in PR as immersive as it can possibly be.
