Seeking Technical Info Re: Removal of HUD

HI

Thanks for your time and love the mod, great job, look forward to V3.

For the life of me, I cant understand why EA/Dice would not provide the option to toggel off more of the HUD **** that clutters the screen.

At times, playing vanilla BF2, I just chuckle...it is like a cartoon of floating colors....and the scrpit running at the top left.....good grief, how stupid.
So, "MajorDamage" has killed "psychokilla" again....uuugh.

I really would like to play Vanilla BF2 w/o the nonsense scripting running at the top left, no enemy name tags (at least) and the ability to toggel the mini map like the battlefield map.

The PRMM MOD comes closest to providing this.

Respectfully, can I ask anyone on the MOD team or in the know, how to modify the HUD files and if it is possible to create a cvar or cfg file allowing mini map toggeling?

Not interested in creating MOD's or pirateing anyones work, just want to enjoy game play more.

I think modifying the hud will count as a modded game, ie you cant run it with regular BF2 on regular servers. PB would kick (and maybe even ban) you.

What you can do is turn on 100% transparency though. For example, removing crosshair, sprint/ammo info and the minimap. Its done under the regular BF2 settings. Cant get the text away though.

Edit: Just tried it and it appears DICE missed a part, urk... The flags and indication on how many bases you own (blue/red boxes) doesnt go transparent. Looks awfully ugly. Ammo indicator and sprint meter still shows too, but not the background.

Yeah thought PB would see it and punt....didnt know if creating a toggle bound to a key just allowing to go "on/off" would work.

Oh well.

Really hope the PRMM mod becomes more popular.

Cant create keys.

I suppose if you want to take drastic measures, you can make a script that prints "renderer.drawHud 0" to the console everytime you spawn and "renderer.drawHud 1" everytime you die (need to be able to pick a spawnpoint). But that probably wouldnt work on regular BF2 anyway (its server scripts) and it is unacceptable to loose the main map (tab/enter). You can also do this manually online (I assume, I've never tried?), shouldnt bother punkbuster. But you'll run into snags like missing ironsights on shotguns and machineguns.

So in short, you're screwed unless DICE fixes the transparency options to include text and ammo/sprint indicators (the visible minimap portion I would consider a bug in the existing options). Which they wont.

There's no hope that DICE will change something about this. The only people that would hopefully do something about this is the PR team. There's a long discussion about the hud in the forums.

Maybe a toggable map/hud/chat box will be tested in PRMM 0.3? I only hope....
