Marine Officer Kit Loadout change

Does the “officer” kit literally represent a squad leader (NCO) or a platoon leader (2nd-1st Lt)? If it is supposed to be an NCO, I think it would be more realistic to remove the pistol and SOFLAM from the kit (all factions).

However, the SOFLAM and sidearm makes me think that it was meant to be a commissioned officer kit.
In that case, the USMC Officer kit should not get the m9 and should instead get the M4, possibly with the ACOG or aimpoint in place of the M16A4. A model is being made for the .7 US Army anyway, right?

Not sure if all Marine officers have been issued the M4 yet, but PR is set in the very "near future"

The officer's kit is justfine, What SOFLAM is good for and the actual purpose of it is a Rangefinder + Laser designator, the laser designator does not work how they would like it to work, so for an example " laser guided " bombs cannot be used..

PR has several military advisors, im sure they know what thier doing

I'm a little confused, only commissioned officers get this kit? I kinda get it for the pistol thing but the SOFLAM? Can't imagine a colonel/captain etc on his arse painting tanks, wouldn't he have better things to do? And isn't that a little dangerous for someone of such a high rank?

the only thing im suggesting is that the M4 replace the M16A4 and M9 in the USMC “Officer” kit, because this has happened/is happening/will happen IRL. Im just assuming from the devs’ decision to include the SOFLAM and handgun that the kit is supposed to represent that of a 2nd or 1st Lieutenant’s, not a noncommissioned officer like a corporal or sergeant (who would be leading a squad irl).

the thread isnt about the realism of having the SOFLAM in the kit but i see where your coming from. irl i believe the ones who "Paint" targets for airstrikes w/ laser designators are SF and air force SF, not infantry officers. if a line infantry unit wanted to have something bombed, doesnt the present CO just call it in via radio?

it might be that the devs intended the "Officer" kit to portray infantry leadership in a composite fashion; they couldve meant it to be the NCO, Platoon Leader, and CO

in that case i just wasted a lot of time

Good find... too bad neat little suggestions like this get ignored, especially considering you have a source to support the suggestion. One the better suggestions I've seen lately here, and a good reason to issue M4s amongst the USMC.

And for those who don't know, the M4 only features single and burst fire modes. The M4A1 is only capable of fully automatic fire, so please don't come in here complaining about how such a noob kit this would become.

I would believe the Officer's Kit covers a large variety of leadership positions, including NCOs and Commissioned Officer's. I assume this because the SLs (ingame) represent either actual Squad Leaders or Fireteam Leaders, while the Commander who also needs the Officer's Kit to function properly, represents more or less a platoon commander or some other higher position, which would usually be held by a commissioned officer.

Yes your quite right in what you are saying, we are going to wait until we get a working laser designator though, before we re assess it

As a Forward Air Controller, I do know there are a number of LT's that are also FAC's however the majority are NCO/SNCO's, especially on Ops in Afghanistan

sounds interesting, but i think it is again down to gameplay vs. realism

You are partly correct. The standard M4 has Safe, Single, and Burst as you listed. But the M4A1 has Safe, Single, Auto. The M4 is used by SL's, armor crew, and others that prefer the use of a carbine over a rifle. The M4A1 however is the SpecOps variant, as frontline grunts normally do not use full-automatic fire on a battle rifle.

Regarding the original post, I do agree that NCO's really shouldn't be carrying the M9. I wonder if it's possible to change kits into a Commander kit and a seperate SL kit, which might resolve the issue.
