Royal Army Engineer Equipment

Im sure you guys have probaly looked at this before, and here i am again giving my input :lol:

=============================

Infantry Foot Bridge
Two Infantry Foot Bridge bridges will allow a company of soldiers to cross an obstacle in under five minutes. Used by the Assault Pioneer platoons of air-mobile and air-portable infantry units, this is a versatile and lightweight aluminium bridging system that can be carried on a four tonne truck. The bridge can be assembled quickly and quietly, and can take three fully equipped infantrymen at a time..

One Bridging Set comprises 8 bridge modules, each of 4.43 metres in length;
Spans dry gap 16 metres, wet gap 30 metres. A bridging set is carried by a single 4 or 8 ton truck.

I think the best way to use this would be to make it a static object and use it on some maps maybe :wink:

=============================

Armoured Vehicle Launcher Bridge (AVLB)
The AVLB launches a single Close Support Bridge to cross gaps of up to 24.5m or a combination of such bridges to cross gaps of up to 60m. A single bridge can be laid in about 3 minutes without exposing the crew. Once the bridge has been laid the launch vehicle can drive over it and recover it from the far bank.

• Weight 53,300 kg;
• Length 13.74m;
• Height 3.92m;
• Width 4.16m;
• Max Speed 42 kph;
• Crew 3;
• Armament 2 x 7.62mm machine guns.
• Engine diesel.

Now this could be a very strategic tool of PRMM if used/made right. Used on a map with lots of rivers, and very few bridges or on a map with lots of crators or somthing this could enable a engineering team to set this bridge down somwhere on the river where the other team may or may not exspect it and then they could outflank the enemy from a totaly diffrent direction :m1helmet:

Im sure this tool would be used by clans and the like effectivly but if it was used much in a public game i do not know :confused:

=============================

Shielder
Engineers have to clear obstacles - and create them too. The British Army Shielder Syatem gives commanders the facility to create anti-tank barriers quickly and effectively. The system consists of modular dispensers which can be fired to either side or to the rear, mounted on a flat bed version of the Stormer Armoured Personnel Carrier. The anti-tank mines have a prgrammable life, at the end of which they self-destruct. The British Army does not use anti-personnel mines.

This sounds like a tank that runs arround a larghe arear of a filed dropping mines, which sounds very cool. Thou you cant tell how manny TKs the guy that dose this may get :lol: :28_behead

=============================

These things should maby ony be used by the engineers class to but that would be up for you guys to decied. Once again what you think ;)

We're not Dutch, we don't call the Army the "Royal Army". It's the British Army! I've come accross many American's who've called it this (easy to get confused I guess, with the Royal Navy and Royal Airforce and all) but never a Brit!

Anyway, unless EA/DICE make an AI tool for us (ha, there's a joke) I'm not sure if these would be all that useful. They'd be good in SP missions but as far as MP goes I'm not so sure. Coop would be a nice place for them, but then again you'll need the AI tool for that to change the way all computer controled assets are used. It'd be too slow and need a lot of map space to make it worth while in human vs human situations and you'd need a large team. Good idea's though! I guess it's down to the devs to use them or not.

I have allways personly called it the royal army, but if it cuts down on confustion then ye.

SP mission, na i dont think that would be a good idea really, just aim for mutliplayer modes.

But yes for a huge map, with a big river or 2, with few crossing this could come in very usful :wink:

You want bridging vehicles in BF2? Given the current map sizes and the amounts of players being capped at 64 i really dont see this as being relevant.

Loving the bridging kit, both the pers and tank. I DO see the possible lack of relevance, but just because its there doesn't mean it HAS to be used...

IMO it'd be a good squad attacking tool.

And I love the idea of the mines vehicle, but ONLY, IMO for AP mines. And to adhere to balance, the engi needs to be able to clear a "path" (wide enough for inf only) to be able to get through. Obviously, he would need his squad around him to protect him when he's de-mining..... a la real life.

It doesn't hold relevence at the mo, because no maps have been made with it in mind...

...however, a custom map with an uncrossable chasm would surely add relevence...

Aye, possiby.

I was thinking also of the Tank map we were playing about on yesterday....

Has a valley and an oft mined bridge, which, at one pont, was jammed with broken armour!! :-D Imagine laying that thing down alongside (ish) the bridge....

There are plenty of places for tanks to cross on the map, have a little look arround there is like 3 fords and 2 bridges ;)

Yea, but not everywhere in the world has a ford across a river a few hudred feet away from a destroyed bridge.

Got that, mate, but it was just ONE example. Besides, there's the spawn points on either side of the bridge....
