I can rember that in AA you could go into your profile and play with your wepaon and add mods to it to customize it to your needs

I never really played AA that much to really play with this feature enouth but i can rember that you could add and take off bi-pods, sights ect which would have good and bad points about them ;-)

im not sure atall if this would be possibal to do in BF2 and would take a hell of alot of codeing to do it. Im just looking at your L85A1 in your media and it has a standered iron sight, and not the teloscip sight i would personly like to use on it ;-)

little extras like these could really seprate this mod from BF2, but then again it migth make it look like a copy of AA again

but any ways, just anouther point of view from me, would be a really nice feature if you could mod your own weapons :D

Strengths
- Ability to customize weapon to meet the needs of each varied mission type.
- Teams can plan mod groupings to maximum advantage, .

Weaknesses
- Most popular mods will be overused.
- Mods cannot be changed during combat.

I dont think BF2 can do it, honestly. Not in the way you're thinking anyway. It uses fixed classes loaded from a set of files.

I would like to see the unlock toggle used for a MUCH broader way of class selection within respective area. I want to wield a shotgun while having body armor :)

There is no reason you could not have different options of sights etc on weapons.
And it would be a very good idea. Fact is that every gun in the game should be capable to kill with one well placed shot. Some BF2 weapons are only better because they offer a better view of the target to get the shot.
Example:
the G3 with an optic would be hands down the best long ranger imo.

Stick a scope on the G3 and it becomes the SG-1! Norway still use them as standard issue, so do Sweden (well, it's the AK4 there with lots of winter condition mods to it, same with the AK5 ala FNC). They're great rifles, just a shame of the mag size really, and they're pretty damn big for modern combat. I don't think they're allowed to be used by infantry (regular grunts) in combat because they're members of NATO (don't think Sweden are mind). They have to use 5.56... poor things.

Bring on more DMR's!

huh? are you saying NATO nations military can't use 7.62 cartridges in their assault rifles? why not? I mean, they use 7.62 in LMG (M60, M240B and more)

Selecting every accessory or even kit item from a menu as in America's Army and to a lesser extent Raven Shield is not possible in the BF2 engine. As dawdler said, the unlock toggle will be used to select variations of equipment within a given class (for example, a rifleman might choose between M16A4 with a close-combat optic or an M16A4 with an ACOG telescopic sight). This equipment will also vary by map and possibly be randomized.

Also, this has been discussed to death, Rhino, as have many of your other other suggestions. Please use the search function next time.

The L85A2 with SUSAT optic will be standard for the UK rifleman class except on certain maps. Engineers, medics and possibly others will have the iron sights.

According to NATO Standardization Agreements, the 5.56 x 45mm cartridge must be used for their most common issue service rifles, just as 9 x 19mm must be used for their most common issue sidearms. This was so NATO forces could interchange ammunition in the field and in supply chains. It is also the reason why M16 magazines can be used with L85, and vice-versa.

BTW, when a military semi-auto or selective fire rifle uses a full-sized cartridge like 7.62 x 51mm (aka 7.62mm NATO / .308 Winchester) it is called a "battle rifle" rather than assault rifle.

Yes, NATO and US forces can and often do use 7.62mm battle rifles, but those are not really universal issue anymore for most NATO nations. They're usually something brought out for unit-level designated marksmen and/or special operations forces when a bit more "oomph" is required.

I know that the german G36 series uses 5.56 ammo but there is no way that the round will ever fit in a m16. The casing is bigger around. not sure about the brits only seen 1 L85/SA80 that was at baghdad airport. The guys said he wasnt in the brit military.

Did see a couple brits running around with M4 with the H&K GL(think it was not sure it did open to the side)
