animated statics?

i know it's kind of a contradiction :P

but is it possible to create statics that have animated textures or are animated themselves?

in that case you could create a "static" of a crowd of civilians yelling and screaming -- maybe a road block or something.

it doesn't have to buildings right? would be cool to add that civilian effect.

i know that Okita made on his BHD map a roadblock with flames and stuff. So why not the crowd would be a hard thing through.

would be kind of weird, you could just drive a tank through them and they would still be standing there...
probably best used for like crewmen on an aircraft carrier.

The oil pumps are animated, so yes, you can have animated statics. Animated crowds would look retarded though, only because you could go SO close to them. And the only way you could make them look good is to do a TON of work and make them way too detailed and good which would lag like crazy. So you can't really do it.

ya lag is another thing but the crowd idea would fail but most other things would work.

I am pretty sure the only animations that can be done on statics are circular rotational bundles. Which is why the only animations you ever see in BF engine are in circles, or combinations of circles. So that limits things quite a bit. Also I believe the animations cannot stop and reverse or anything like that.

Fires and smoke are totally different.

animated textures etc are not possible. can have a rotational bundel like Ty2D2 says like on the oil pumps but they require dynamic shaddows etc and is not really worth it for the most of the time. locked.
