you should only be landing on sl request
otherwise you're just annoying players by landing beside them

Yes, I do avoid choppers whenever possible.

Each time I see a chopper flying over my head/taking of close-by my heartbeat goes crazy. Why ? Bad experiences mate. Choppers crashing on your head, hitting trees, hitting mountains in full speed, taking a bath in sea, flipping over at heliport, getting blown up by a tank. Oh god.

It's also possible that you had bad round. Unfortunately very common in PR these times. I found out, that the best time to play is after 11 PM, when all the 12 years all vBF2 rambos are asleep. Unfortunately I can stay that long only on Friday and Saturday :-(
After 11 o'clock you can finally enjoy a proper teamplay. Of course, sometimes you can be lucky enough to have a good round in the evening, but that's far from being common. It's a pity...

ye, also the problem alot of the time is that ppl dont want to get into the chopper cos most time, the pilots never take you to where you want to go.

I'd be scared if I was flying :$

No matter how hard I try, I still crash from time to time, usually at the worst possible time too.

Partly due to my passengers being stupid though. When I'm hovering, you bail, don't wait for me to land and roll out the red carpet. Same thing when I'm picking you up. Please be ready to mount up and get going, instead of racing around like crazy while you're waiting for the hostile armor to notice me.

I never get in the chopters on the beginning of the round on Jabal. I'll rather wait for him to come back coz then i now that he can fly and land. And from my experience on that map only 50% of the chopters return:/
Never argue with an idiot, he will just drag you down to his level and beat you by experience ;)

Actually, I am pretty decent on that map. Probably because whoever designed it kept BHs in mind, there are plenty of easy-ish spots to land on. Just have to avoid AA :p

I was a pilot on a... forgot the name... map with DAM and beaches... anyway, I picked up 2 guys. Asked them 5 times where they wanna go, after 5th I just took off, and took them to the west beach. I hoovered over the water, they refused to jump out. Beach was ours but from the hills I started to take small arms fire from the hills, then HAT came on, I barely avoided being hit by rolling on left side. I went over the beach narrowly avoiding radio tower. Came back to the beach, they wanted me to land on the ground. So I tried that and this time I wasnt able to avoid the HAT - straight in my face.

After that I took another chopper, and after taking off I lost connection.

In my opinion fault is on both sides. Retarded ppl that dont understand how dificult and dangerous is piloting an aircraft in the warzone, and pilots crashing, either mistake or accident.

Conclusion: People are afraid of helicopters because they had a bad luck being in a bad choppers either it was a pilot or a retarded passenger/s.

Reddish_Red: We're fine...

Random.. ehmmm... "player": Give me the chopper. No. I want to fly. No. But I want to, get out from it now or I TK you. ... ... ... No

I have an answer for your question "why people afraid pilots", and the answer is "bad memories".

Fresh example:
Couple days ago (it was friday I think) I was playing on Operation Ghost Train map, there was some guy with a transport helicopter on the heli pad in the main chineese base so I decided to jump in (there was also some other guy with me). While being in the helo I was writing (he wasn't from my team so I couldn't use VOIP) to this pilot to drop me off somewhere near north bridge (he didn't respond). Guess what happened next? He dicided to make some kind of kamikaze flight and crashed straight in to british merlin standing in the british main base :hissyfit: There was no warning, no "jump out/bail out" shouting (he could hover over the river so we could jump out to the water but noooo).

meh, pilot squads... i say never trust a blue guy unless your in direct coms with him/her. The only pilot i trust is Mongol!

As stated earlier at times SLs might have other plans then zipping in and out on LBs and BHs, as unwanted transport can at times ruin a stealthy advance!

Hehe...my best/worst (depends on what side you're looking at it) memories actually were at West Beach too. Raced there with an APC...just in time to catch 3 BHs. One I blew up as it was landing, one tried avoided me but got hit by a hill, and the last one got taken out by me too...you know what, I think I'll start driving.

Gotta love those infantry only rounds...So peaceful and so serene. The only time you look up is when the pretty birds take off and give away your position..lol. Yeah, unless I have a full bottle of motrin, the less air assets the better..

Yeah, nice one (not for them, though)

After playing PR for a while I've learned this:
PR chopper tip no.1:
If the pilot takes of without asking you where to go, start planing your next respawn point...

All this makes me sad... I can fly a round of Jabal and maybe loose two birds at most. Many rounds, I'll go the entire match without loosing my ship.

In reply to Rhino's comment about not going where people want to be taken - if you spend more than 5 minutes flying teamwork transport (i.e.: rather than airmobile transport for a single squad) - on any map with a chopper, you *will* get told to go to some ridiculous place- such as a flag that's only just gone neutral, a flag that's under attack or a CP with a flashing "APC!" marker on it.

Now, I've got no problem with getting people CLOSE to where they want to go - I'll try and get people to East Beach when it's got contacts on it, and I'll usually make it to. What I can't tolerate is people telling me I *MUST* land them where they say and then refusing to bail out of my ship when I'm dropping them off further out than they want to be.

People lingering in the loadbay instead of bailing out quick, people ordering choppers to be in places they shouldn't be, people not telling their pickup pilot that there's a tank 100m away when they request the lift - all those things are what make piloting (and riding with a pilot) so gorram dangerous for GOOD pilots.

Now, shit pilots I make no excuse for. The guy who TK'd me on Oman, for example, (because I wouldn't take him to the Hotel, which was hot). He headshotted me with a pistol, jumped into the pilot seat and flew my bird (fully laden) out to sea. It was his first time flying BHs in PR, and he survived for 30s - most of them sideways and once, briefly upside down. It was painful.

First of all I should qualify myself before coming down on pilots by saying; "I fly like a Turd".

Yea we've been burned before and afraid of:
- Pilots that land us right smack in the middle of a hot zone, not bothering to find a safer landing zone nearby.
- Pilots that announce their arrival. (along with noob gunners constantly firing at nothing or anything that moves including friendlies)
- Pilots that don't bother opening a custom game and learning on their own time.

But man one thing; it sure makes the game to get with a good dedicated pilot though.
