Your MOD and Vanilla BF2?

If I download and install the MOD does it run separately from the "plain jane" BF2? In other words can I choose whether I want to play the Modded Version OR the un-modded Version without having to un-install and re-install?

bf2 will be untouched, you will have a separate icon on your desktop to play prmm.

What the guy above said. You should have no problems playing vanilla BF2 with PRMM.02 installed.
Except, after having played PRMM you may have some troubles going back to vanilla!

And if you for some odd reason dont get the icon on your desktop, you can simply go to Community>Custom Games and activate/deactivate it there.
