Less ammo

Really simple suggestion, make it so you don't have nearly as much ammo in conventional armies. Make it more like the militia/insurgency.

I did have an idea that i knew wouldn't work:
Make it so you spawn in with the amount of clips that you had when you died.

I'd actually like to see less ammunition given to the classes as well. I know it's not realistic, but I believe it would provide for some better gameplay. I mean how often does a player actually need ammunition for their assault rifle? Most of the time ammo bags, jeeps, APCs, supply drops, bunkers, firebases etc. are only used to reload rockets, grenades, missiles and other explosive projectiles and devices.

What I'd like to see is the Rifleman & Officer classes given 4+1 magazines (with 1 being already in the weapon). Medic & Engineer given 2+1. And most other limited classes around 3+1 on their primary weapons. Rifleman & Support classes wouldn't be dramatically effected as they already have ammo bags in their inventory. However players playing support roles would be very dependent on supplies. It would help make these players focus more on their support roles than serving as frontline infantry, and the idea overall would help decrease the amount of random firing where people seem to waste ammo for no apparent reason. Also encourages a more conservative play style, and finally we might actually see players requesting supply drops for ammunition and not just for getting a Heavy AT or Officer's Kit.

I use up all my rifle ammo all the time. Let's think about how much ammo I used to carry and the fact that a lot of soldeirs overload themselves with extra's.

My old webbing had 4 slots for a magazine to go into and that is just 2 pouches. A lot of guys have 3 or 4 pouches on the web belt depending on what else they had to carry. Plus there will be more elsewhere.

Now with the new chest webbing I think they have even more spots to tuck ammo.

I say leave it as is and if you die less often you will find you go through all your ammo all the time. If you're not, shoot more. I often shoot at areas just to make them pick a predictable direction and run around to intercept them. Sort of like throwing smoke into an area you have no intension of running through.

Thats because in RL they have to lay down covering fire or fire on suspected enemy positions not just fire when you have someone in your sights like in game. Keep all the ammo it doesn't do any harm.

I blow through all my ammo as I lay down fire and shoot at suspected areas like you said. Besides which it can't hurt and I've gotten more than a few lucky kills this way.

My first post on the official PR forums, love your work guys!

[/on topic]

From my experience in the australian army, we had 2 steyr pouches that held 3x30round mags each, so 6 rifle mags, then we had 2 minimi puches that held 100 rounds each (iirc - might have been 200 now that i think about it) - we'd ditch these coz i was in armoured... Then you could also have some chest webbing that you could rig a few more steyr/m4 mags to if you wanted, or pistol mags if that was ur thing.

The best thing here though, and it would be cool if PR could somehow finagle this, is that our MGs and rifles used the same ammo, so we could share it around if someone was running low. It'd be cool if we could drop a full rifle mag in game for the bloke next to us who's just ran out.

well, happybe-lated vets day(even though you didnt serve in the US armed forces, still)
I believe they should revive the vanilla "armor/no armor" when you spawn, instead or armor, ammo! such as:
if you sellect ammo(on a scale of how much you want in a class) then you have less stamina, the more ammo you choose, the less you have, etc.
but if you choose NO extra ammo, you have the norm ammount of stamina

(imagine scales)
AMMO:
_0_0_0_0_0____

Stamina:
_0_0__________

you catch my drift? they more/less you have, the less/more sprinting distance you have

hmmm i disagree, how much does one clip weigh? i dont think one clip would make a difference really, and im not some fantastic runner but really one clip? cant imagine in weighing much, then again I've never held one, but seriously, what are they like 500 grams?

As some have said, the problem is that currently no one in PR wants to lay covering fire, they still think it doesnt work or something...

If people used their weapons for other reasons than 100% accurate fire (or attempts at that) then youd have good suppressive/covering fire and people would be using more of their ammo and therefore, would be needing more resupplies more often.

Okita

Fire your weapon.

They are not light and sure you may not notice one in your pocket but throw 10 in your bags plus loose rounds, grenades, MRE's etc etc.

It's actually another major reason why 5.56 is standard, you can carry more.

Otika, I've heard that arguement a lot too. I've not noticed to many people shooting back when I lay sustained fire at anything moving in an area I know baddies are. Sure I get popped once in awhile but more often than not they don't shoot back that accurately, unless it's a one on one when it's just a pixle shoot.

well, if you think about it, covering and suppresive fire really doesn't work in PR.

you can go out to pretty much any map, like mestia or EJOD or w/e, and when you find a horde of enemies, lay down suppresive fire.

Here's what happens whenever I do it.

Usually with a Light automatic weapon, if fire full auto or bursts at or around the enemy.
Half the time they are so idiotic to move, and their idiocy actually does them good in that the inability of my weapon to effectivly incapacitate them gives them the chance to raise their scopes in that split second (which is unrealistic), and WTFPWN headshot me.
The other half of the time, they get up, start bunnyhopping and jumping, and find a little bump in the terrain, and then pop up and start playing the cat/mouse game of headshot.
suppresive fire does close to nothing in PR.

Sounds like you are alone, if you where using the LMG with a couple of guys with you the fire you lay down should be enough to get your buddies into a firing position or grenade range.

The problem is not that it does not work just that it's not done right.

I dont get it. The mod is called Reality mod no point it making it less realistic.

Pasfreak is not Alone I agree. Suppressive fire works on the principle of fear and you can't duplicate that effect in a game. First strike made suppressive fire work because they made it so you can blanket the target with laser fire so there are no way you can shoot back with out getting killed.

we are trying to vastly improve suppresive fire for v0.7.

Its one of my biggest disappointments of v0.6, that suppresive fire usually just gets you killed ,it sucks big time.

look here for some great suppresive fire moments in jabal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4x4ze-NelU0

this was back in v0.5 where the rifles werent all headshot machines.

It's not that they're too accurate. It's that they're instantly accurate. In 0.7 it will take a while before you can shoot accuratly (simulating target aquisition/breathing etc), thus eliminating jack-in-the-box rifleman, thus making supression fire very usefull.

Hopefully this will mean that people will be using 10x the ammunition they do now so in response to the OP, no. We'll say with realistic ammo levels.
