Practice is the best way. Either on quite servers or in single player.
Here are some tips:
When placing.. aim at the ground about 10 - 20 feet in front of you. (take your time, don’t rush this)
Sometimes in confined areas you need to aim closer to your feet. But remember to clear the area or you might get squashed by your own placed asset.
The centre of the object being placed is placed where you aim at the ground.
If you want your bunker or fire base to be low, place it on clear, flat ground. Avoid any statics, walls etc as these could make your bunker 20 feet tall and visible to all.
There are separate rules for objects that need building, i.e. bunkers, firebases and sandbag walls over objects that are placed, i.e. AA guns, barbed wire, commander truck & command post.
Placed objects will perch upon whatever object they are placed on.
Built objects react to the terrain in some wild ways.. they wrap around and over terrain. Only with practice can you judge what will happen.
They also hate roofs, and generally can’t be placed where you have something over your head.
Hope this helps..
